hoogs 8 Report post Posted May 12, 2009 quite possibly the worst ideas I have ever heard. Good thing you aren't Ken Holland
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted May 12, 2009 1) Do not resign Samuelsson, Conklin, Chelios, Downey, and McCarty 2) Trade Holmstrom and Lilja to whoever for low draft picks 3) Resign Hossa to the same deal Zetterberg got (6.1 mil per year cap hit) 4) Restructure Lidstrom's deal to 5 years, 6 mil per season 5) Sign Kopecky to .75, 1, 1.25 three year deal 6) Sign Hudler to 2, 3, 4, three year deal 7) Sign Leino to a 1 year, 1 mil deal 1. One out of Seven isn't bad I guess. 2. No. 3. Much easier said than done. 4. Impossible. 5. No. 6. Easier said than done. 7. Easier said than done.

Again, we've still got the reading and comprehension problem!!!! "What would you do if you were Kenny Holland?" I don't mind a little criticism over what I would do, but the real purpose of this thread for me was to see what everyone thought would be possible. For instance, I am glad someone pointed out that we can't restructure Lidstrom's contract. I didn't know that. I thought that if a player signed an extension ala Henrik Zetterberg, the cap figure would have some sort of averaging effect and make it possible for the team to keep more good players. Good thing to know. However, I don't see why the other things are so far out of the question.
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted May 12, 2009 holmstrom is a one-of-a-kind player who is popular in detroit, hated by other teams, and great at what he does. he gets paid 2.25 million dollars a year. why the eff would holland trade him for a "low draft pick" when he won't be easily replaced and does not get paid that much anyway? In the crease...outta the crease...in the crease...outta the crease.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted May 12, 2009 The OP thinks Homer is useless, therefore trade him for nothing. The OP should really not be making player "decisions" until the off-season, when people do this stuff.

Regular Season: NHL TOTALS 811 189 235 424 Post Season: NHL TOTALS 138 38 40 78 He's a 36 year old guy who scores about a point every other game. For a first or second liner who gets his fair share of power play time on the Red Wings, this isn't enough for me. I'm sorry, but I would much rather have someone else on the ZD line. joshy207 156 Report post Posted May 13, 2009 I've never believed Holmstrom to be a "first line" NHLer. His style is third or fourth line--he's not a great skater, not a playmaker, until a few years ago wasn't a great shooter, plays a more gritty, grinding style and crashes the net--but he meshes well with Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and a couple of Detroit's other top-liners. Holmstrom cannot carry a line but he does complement better players. Therefore I see no reason to move him; at his age, salary, production level and talent level he's worth far, far more to the team as one of its players than as trade bait. Dude you don't even have a clue. I can tell your new to this so let me educate you a little bit. 1) Try to understand the game before you start going around talking hockey like you know something. 2) Holmstrom is hands down one of the the most irreplaceable players in the NHL right now. 3) You need to understand that even though Holmstrom doesn't get 80 points per season. He was the reason atleast 100 goals went in the net this season. 4) Holmstrom is a front of the net artist. Nobody can screen, deflect, aggravate goalies/defensemen like him. Aka hes a big reason why our team has the most goals for in the league. I believe Holmstrom is one of the biggest parts to our success in recent years. I just hope to hell somebody can replace him when he retires.

There's a reason why when players and coaches are interviewed, they always talk about how Holmstrom is the best at what he does - which, as we all know, is screening the goalie. On countless occasions, players have said that Homer is the type of person you love on your team and hate having against your team. NOBODY in this league is as good at goalie screening than Homer - even sports analysts tip their hats to him. Edited May 13, 2009 by Ms_Hockey

This is the perfect explanation for what Homer does. Also, to the OP, don't call them your plans and then say these are the things Kenny should do. That's pretty contradictory. "If I were Kenny" would have been better IMHO.
