mjlegend 155 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Sorry, I meant to say "Does this have anything to do with how 29 teams play the game to win in 2009?" Comparing this to how the Wings won in 1997 is like comparing apples to turtles.
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 I got flamed for saying this before, & I'll probably get flamed again...Those who feel fighting doesn't have it's place in hockey/has no meaning in the game/feel that fighting doesn't have any emotional effect on the team probably didn't play hockey, nor any contact sport for that matter. I'd be inclined to agree, 100%.

This. Who cares if you get flamed again, it's the same people flaming you that you are referring to in your post. I've always thought that people who haven't played the game can still contribute in a knowledgeable way to these threads, however until they've played the game they are never going to understand the psychological side, not just in fighting but as other posters have mentioned team camaraderie. The poll speaks for itself though.
hockeysattva 8 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 It was the game as a whole, not the fight, but you didn't exactly give the option of both... the game was the turning point in the season according to players. I think too many people are missing the point, the NHL says it wants change, so the Red Wings move forward according to those changes, but then the NHL fails to live up to what it says. Most of these players are players not fighters, so when all the sudden are we expecting them to fight -- because the NHL is letting them get bullied in ways that the rules do not allow. The Wings will win, and hopefully it will put more fuel in the "skill wins cups" fire. You guys are actually starting to sound worse than the posters on the Ducks board.
