Buzz up!

We're not saying it should happen or will happen, but ...

If the Red Wings' Niklas Kronwall is suspended for that stunning first-period hit on Martin Havlat, would Mike Babcock dress Chris Chelios?

Anyway, the CBC guys were all outraged Friday night by the 5-minute major and game misconduct called against Kronwall.

"This is a great, great hit for me," Mike Milbury said. "... They ought to put O'Halloran and Jackson on a bus tomorrow morning, get 'em out of the playoffs."

That would be referees Dan O'Halloran and Dave Jackson. But Milbury was just getting warmed up.

"This is not a penalty," Milbury said. "Shoulder -- bang! -- check with a guy's head down. This is a thing of beauty. If you don't like it, change the channel."

What, to Versus?

That call was bad for the game and bad for hockey. Babcock was furious.

You tell them Milbury!!!

Good ol Hockey! Chicago fans should appreciate that hit! They got good entertainment last night!

Havlat is a wuss anyways, the guy gets injured from a tap on the shoulder.

How the NHL can't look at O Halloran's calls agaisnt the wings is beyond me. IIRC he was the ref for 3 of our 6 losses in the 08 playoffs. How the NHL can chalk that up to coinsidence is beyond me. I'm so pissed because when we get him again there will be another BS call agaisnt us and once agan the NHL will bury their heads and do nothing to change it.

For what its worth, the refs didn't make the call that got Kronner tossed. A linesman did.

I watched this intermission clip this morning on YouTube and applauded them. Its true. Unfortunate Havlat got hurt, but that changed a momentum swinging clean hit into 5 minutes of offensive hibernation for the Wings. Removed their number 3 defenseman and changed the whole complexion of the game.

Lotta good commentators thinking this was a terrible call does us. I wonder when the NHL will grow a set and make their officials accountable for their f*** ups. That's not even a minor... there's no way that's a misconduct... no G-D way....

Booooooooooooooooooooooo!

O'HALLORAN DID NOT MAKE THAT CALL ON KRONWALL. ONE OF THE LINESMEN DID. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE FIND THE PIECE WHERE IT EXPLAINS THIS AND PUT IT HERE? THANKS.

I'm not thrilled with him either but we really, REALLY need to get this straightened out and MOVE ON.

I've dreamed of holding refs accountable for years. It is honestly starting to resemble a fascist state, the fact that the NHL denies their refs even make mistakes, let alone make them accountable for the games they are deciding on more and more frequent occasions. And even more to the point, coaches and players are FINED for saying the refs f***ed up when the refs f***ed up. Its like some weird nazi game where Hitler (Bettman) puts an elephant (terrible reffing) in the room, and first one to mention it goes to Auschwitz.

TBH, I'll move on after a game 4 win. I don't really care who did or did not make the call, the fact of the matter is that it was a bad call and the whole crew was at fault. God forbid the league do anything about it though.

^ THIS. ^

I think it would be a really wise and grown-up thing if we understood this and not keep blaming the wrong person, whether we think highly of him or not.

I don't know who Scott Oake is, but if you could find that explanation, could you put it on here? Thanks. The latest I'd read (which was last night) was that O'Halloran didn't make the call. If he ultimately did, I stand corrected.

I don't think the linesman can even make that call...

What's laughable to me is that some say Havlat didn't have possesion of the puck. IT WAS IN HIS FEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the wings should draw a play up where you have a guy skating toward the goal, someoen passes the puck into their feet, and both the puck and player glide to the net untouched. So, as soon as an opposing player reaches or touches the player, they get an interference call.

Give me a break. That play was on Havlat. Head down, puck in his feet. He had possession. Clean play. Sucks to see him injured, but it's his fault.

Wings in 5

scott oake is CBC's john keating, i guess. i'm not sure if i can find that clip, but he definitely said it after the second intermission when he was leading a discussion with milbury and hrudey.

Dont buy into this linesman made the call trash.

The linesman can tell the Ref what he sees, but it is the refs decision to make the call.

Both refs saw this play and we saw the result.

Trying to dodge responsability is exactly why the NHL is such trash.

Sure lets blame someone else.

Thanks for this explanation. I'll take your word for it. ^_^ My apologies for pushing this point if I was wrong. I just don't want us to look bad if we don't have to.

Meanwhile, I sure wish Directv gave us access to CBC. I would watch them in a Texas minute over Versus. :(

On NHL Hour this coming Thursday...

Bettman: "Our referees are the best in sports, they're not perfect but they get it right 99.9% of the time..."

Caller: "Then why did they get it wrong against the Red Wings over 50% of the time in Friday's game?"

Bettman: "Our referees are the best in sports, they're not perfect but they get it right 99.9% of the time..."

Caller: "But I just asked-"

Caller: "Am I even talking to a real per-"

Caller: "You know, you're a real-"

Clement: "Oops, looks like we lost the caller!"

I think the only call the linesman can really make is high sticking??

I thought they gave them that power one year, you know when that was the flavor of the month.

Gary Bettman is a gutless lawyer turd.

The lead wreaks of it. We have gutless coaches, refs, head office. Not all of course but the lawyer mentality is absolutely trickling down from the top and poisoning our game.

Giev CBC. :(

It's truly f***ed up that the refs are solely calling NOT on the fact that this could have possibly been an actual infraction, but the fact that Havlat was hurt. f*** Havlat for having his head down like that and f*** the refs for kicking out a player for an obvious non penalty. These refs ******* suck and have been in the last few seasons, and they're taking these calls too far.
