Why did we stop playing physical?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Detroit was the most physical team in the playoffs until the last two games.

Why did we get away from that?

Now the pens skate all over with no fear.

I will never understand this team and their lack of consistency.

BTW, I think we need to take a hard look at our PK. I said it at the midpoint of the season and I knew the Pens would shred our pathetic PK. What changed?

I dont have any answers, but unfortunatly I dont think Babs does either.

We are letting this cup slip away, and everyone of the players should feel like crap after tonights game.

I am glad they got embarrassed, maybe this will wake them up. The wings have tried to sleepwalk to the cup and use their talent on a limited basis. You cant coast to the cup in this league anymore.

Its time for a wake up call, Im hoping tonight our guys look in the mirror and ask themselves "What in the f*** am I doing out there"

I just hope my Dats concussion theory is wrong and he comes out and brings new life and drive to the team.

Lets see who shows up Sat, Im afraid this team is just too tired; beat up and emotionally checked out to put it together.

Time to wake the f*** up and play some hockey!

Pitts came out banging in game 3, as bad as tonight was... I thought our physical game was a lot better than game 3, we finished most our hits tonight, most noticeably guys like Helm (obviously), Hossa, Draper, Franzen, Cleary, Holmstrom... our D haven't been physical enough this series and tonight they just looked plain awful

Why doesn't Kronwall take Crosby or Malkin out like he did Havlet?

Off topic a bit, but Wings shots seem weak last night too. What happen to Lidstrom's blast? He has a blast that can take out a Penguin!

Why hasn't anyone taken out Zetterberg? Stars know they have targets on their backs and so they learn ways to avoid hits.

The general rule is to keep your shots low. Easier to control for some. But I would loooove if someone took a shot that hit both Talbot and Orpik in the same sequence. Don't care where.

Pens outplayed us. It that simple. They skated to the puck quicker, they threw harder hits, won puck battles. Our defense cost us this game, along with a ozzie letting in a couple of goals he should of had. Turn overs lead to to many scoring chances for the pens. There is no way you can keep giving the Pens that many quality scoring chances and expect not to get burned.

They need to turn the momentum around quick. Come out and play a full 60 mins of hard nosed detroit style hockey on saturday night. And we, the fans need to be behind them 100% and cheer this team to victory and give them that added boost that they so desperately need.

We are gassed from 4 games in 6 nights coming off the Chicago series...and Pit is playing like they want it more.

We're going to become the 2nd team to give up a 2-0 lead in the SCF and lose the cup if we don't find a way to get rested.

Babcock said they are getting the day off today to recharge. Hope it helps.

I trust Babcock, but what I don't understand is why they didn't get the day off before game 4. Seriously...3 games in 4 nights and you have them practicing? Seriously? I don't get that one. But I'm not going to try and tell Babs what to do. He's been phenominal for us.

I really hope we win game 5.

Energy. Stanley Cup hangover. They've been trying to manage it all year. Now it looks as if they should've taken more games off during the regular season.

Taken more games off? Maybe if they would have played as hard as they could all year, they'd be better conditioned and more acustomed to playing hard, night in and night out.

Because the Wings are full of early twenty year olds and there's no such thing as burnout over the course of nearly 100 games this season after playing the same amount the season before?

I hadn't considered the argument that "The Wings players are old and tired and if they play hard for a season they'll be shot." Mostly because I don't believe it to be true. Even with aging players, playing hard is better for the body than coasting for 3/4 of a season then suddenly turning it on.

I think the boys are tired mentally and physically. W/out Dats the Wings are playing with one arm tied down to the waist. After a while it wears on you.

I thought the Wings had no hustle last night and were just flat out worked by the Pens. They looked like they had no gas left in the tank.

They had no hockey sense at all and were failing to predect where other players were on the ice and where the puck was going. More than once a Wing tossed a puck up for an outlet pass that was too far forward or too far back for the intended player. When they had the puck they had trouble moving with it (and that's not counting all the times the Pens just poked their sticks to get them off the puck). Which leads me to my next point, the Wings weren't protecting the puck at all.

Like I said, no hustle. They looked physically and mentally tired.

The organization has very, very high standards. Every single individual does what they have to do to win in June. I guarantee you that going balls to the wall for each and every one of the 90-100 games at the NHL level is not what they think is best. More players would be injured and those that remained would be even more worn out than they are now. It's a slow and gradual process that requires a lot of patience. I'm sure that can come off as coasting from a fan's perspective but I have no doubt that this organization and its 18-year playoff streak does the right thing when it comes to winning.
