BruiseBrother 2 Report post Posted June 5, 2009 Why is it always "the Wings have to shut down so n' so", why isn't it "they have to shut down Z, Dats, Mule, Hossa etc.," I just feel we always have to be on the defensive to shut down Crosby and Malkin and they don't seem to say they same about our guys. Please explain this to me.
bdavis 28 Report post Posted June 5, 2009 (edited) That's because they are the main ones involved in all of the Pens scoring. Malkin has tons of assists, mainly because he is a good passer, and Detroit (in my opinion), didn't put enough pressure on him in game 3 or 4. Crosby is a dangerous scorer and play maker too. They need to shut these guys down, and when they do, the Pens will lose much of their offense. Also, I feel that the Pens rely on these guys too much. BruiseBrother 2 Report post Posted June 5, 2009 It seems obvious enough, I guess I'm still a little down after last night. Hossa has got to come through, who on the Pens is shadowing him/ He should be Detroits' Malkin right now.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted June 5, 2009 If Zetterberg and Datsyuk effectively shut down Crosby and Malkin, the game turns into "who has the best third and fourth lines". Because half of our scoring is coming from the third and fourth lines, we should win the series no problem, but it all falls back on shutting down their offense. Zack is Great 14 Report post Posted June 5, 2009 (edited) Detroit is the Paladin of Hockey. They play a primarily defensive style, where they figure if they shut down the other teams stars, eventually their own guys will score. I think you can look at it's track record of the last 18 or so years to see if it's worked. Edited June 5, 2009 by Zack is Great
Flintstone Cicarelli 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2009 Also, I feel that the Pens rely on these guys too much. Mr. Talbot disagrees with you.
xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted June 5, 2009 Hossa has got to come through, who on the Pens is shadowing him? Every Penguin on the ice. He has no support, so whenever he gets the puck, he's swarmed. That's where Dats will come in handy.
