mru22 1 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 (edited) Can we get out of Ozzy ? Two years ago I don't think many people would be asking this question. I think there is a good shot for another cup next year but we need him to keep going Edited June 8, 2009 by mru22
XxGoWingsxX 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 I think realistically with him we will only see him fulfill his contract which in a way makes me kinda excited to see what we do with the goalie situation even though I love ozzie.

DenSter 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 I don't understand why he is continuously questioned about his abilities. The man has his name on the Cup 3 times, and is very close to number 4. He gets voted player of the game almost every other game. He's been outstanding throughout the playoffs. So what if he had a bit of a slump during the regular season, he got out of it didn't he. I'd say he is one of the biggest stars on the entire team, is at the top in most meaningful stats in Wings history, and a big reason for many people to come to the Joe. IMHO his number belongs in the rafters of the Joe. I think it's time for the Red Wings to give Ozzie some 'real' money, and put his contract in the elite bracket, just where he is as a player. Snazzy 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 I might be the minority here, but I don't mind if Ozzie has a crappy season next year as long as he plays like the MVP in the playoffs Coming in 2nd place in the western standing with the worse goalie in the league, to become a favorite to win the MVP in the playoffs is freaking amazing. I would like to see ozzie win a couple more cups before he retires.

So who's your choices to say goodbye to after Os gets this elite money? Much of the Wings depth comes from not paying elite money for a goalie. As to the original question I can imagine Osgood playing a couple more years, maybe more but at some point we have to really look for our next net minder. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 Ozzie will probably play for a couple more years after his current deal. But don't look for him to make anything more than he's making right now...in fact he will probably take less as he ages. He'll likely retire around 2012-13, assuming he remains the starter until then and guys like Howard, Larsson, and McCollum haven't turned into superstars playing 60 games. Ozzie will also likely sign for a year at a time. If that's accurate, figure him for around 450-475 wins at the end of his career, and at least two, probably three, and maybe even more Cup rings as a starter...anyone who puts this guy as a "no" for the HOF is just stupid. If he comes back next season and then retires, he'll get to about 420-425 wins and have anywhere from 2-4 Cup wins as a starter. That alone is enough to make him a first-ballot lock. zata20 4 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 I think he wants to pass sawchuk on the all-time wins list before he retires. He sits at 389 regular season wins and he needs 59 more wins to pass sawchuk (447) to become 5th all-time. He has two years left on his contract and I don't think he'll quite get there in two seasons. I think he will sign a one year deal after his current contract ,get his wins, and retire at season end. (He will be 39 years old).
