FunkedUp 29 Report post Posted June 10, 2009 Link History is on their side for Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals Friday at Joe Louis Arena. It will be the 15th Game 7 in Cup finals history, and the home team has won 12 of the previous 14. The only home teams to lose in Game 7 of the finals were the 1971 Chicago Blackhawks (against Montreal) and the 1945 Red Wings (vs. Toronto). The Red Wings are 3-3 in Game 7 of the Cup finals. Their last one was in 1964, a 4-0 loss at Toronto. Detroit's last Game 7 at home in the finals was in 1954 (2-1 overtime victory vs. Montreal). I guess it's nice that were not playing Toronto. I have to admit I am a bit nervous, but I think were gonna pull it off. Home ice is huge, and I expect the Joe to be rocking harder than I've ever seen it in my lifetime. Some thing tells me that the third and fourth lines will decide this game. My blood pressure is going to be high for the next few days. Friday is either going to be the greatest or worst night. I don't think I could handle seeing the Pens win. All we would hear for the next year is about Crosby. Heres to shattering the kids dreams....again. GO WINGS!!!! I'm still debating whether or not I can watch it live, without just coming back into the room to check the score. Sick, but true. I already have blood pressure problems.... cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted June 10, 2009 I'd like to add another optimistic fact to Mr. Khan's article: in Stanley Cup Final G7's with home ice advantage, Detroit is 3-1 (wins in 1950, 1954 and 1955, with the loss in 1945, a best-of-eight points series). Pavrik Zettersyuk 4 Report post Posted June 10, 2009 History doesn't matter. Still, I have faith, because our team is better and Ozzie is ready for anything.
Mister Puck 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2009 I'd like to add another optimistic fact to Mr. Khan's article: in Stanley Cup Final G7's with home ice advantage, Detroit is 3-1 (wins in 1950, 1954 and 1955, with the loss in 1945, a best-of-eight points series). I don't feel that you can put much stock in those trends. Different time, different teams, and even different rules. But, recent history is on Detroit's side Friday. They've only lost one game at home in the playoffs this year. The Pens have been dominated in just about all of the 9 periods played here in the SCF. And then there are the goalies...Osgood clearly favors playing in the Joe, at least his stats indicate this. Fleury is iffy on the road anywhere. He's also very hot/cold. You can almost tell which it's going to be by watching the first couple shots he faces. Bottom line: The Pens have crapped the bed in all three games here. They most certainly have their work cut out for them. If they can come here and play like they did last night, then maybe they will have a chance. But even then, the Wings have proved that they can handle that kind of play. I don't know, but it will be a fun game to watch either way.
FunkedUp 29 Report post Posted June 10, 2009 I think I remember Fluery saying that playing away from home is difficult because he gets distracted because of the different colors and he is used to playing in front of all white shirts in the background. I swear some interviewer said this during the playoffs. Maybe that would explain some of the fluttery goals against him.
soonboomer 31 Report post Posted June 10, 2009 The Vegas odds are on our side to............the Wings are -170 for this game and they were only -150 to win the series when it started. Simply put, the Wings are a heavier favorite to win this game 7 than they were to beat the Pens in a 7 game series. GO WINGS!!!!
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted June 10, 2009 I feel confident. Everything points to a Wings win. Of course, the gamei s played on the ice, and that's why I'm so nervous. I was almost sick with anticipation last night inthe final minutes. I can't handle a Game 7, especially if it's close. And I might be physically ill for a brief moment if Crosby lifts the Cup, and that's no exaggeration. It's just such a distasteful, disgusting idea to have a whiny little brat with no leadership skills lift the Cup and be hailed as the greatest player ever. But I love this Red Wings team, I want them to win it and I think (hope?) they will. Absolutely anything can happen. They need to show up early, and if they don't, it's going to be a long night. What the heck am I going to do in the next two days to keep my mind of fit?
