wings wouldnt go after kovalchuk hes not their type of player. hes lazy and gives up on his team when things arnt going good or when he doesnt like their coach. if nash gets to ufa the leafs will pile the bank up at his front door and i guarantee he'll sign their.

if we lose lidstrom we need to sign someone on the back end and not someone up front. the only notible FA's on D in my mind next year are gonchar and pronger tho.

and if lidstrom retires then they will have a lot of room to work with and could make a push for kovalchuk or nash etc.

Do you guys even watch the Red Wings? If Lidstrom was to retire im pretty sure we will be on the market for a number one D to replace him not a forward.

yeah you are probably right - i was just listing a couple of big name guys who could become UFAs next year to show how much cap space the wings would have.

whomever they sign though - it will be impossible to replace lidstrom.

If Lidstrom chooses to retire you can bet your ass off that Holland will make a 2 year offer to Pronger or another player to fill the defensive void. Maybe even luongo.

If he just takes a paycut and continues playing for say 3.5-4 million a year, I can see us going after a decently named forward, allthough I can't imagine Holland wanting Ilya K. Not his type of player
