Oilers sign Grebeshkov

Ah Edmonton, always good for an inflated contract. He'll be good in the future, but right now he's not worth that much.

Not quite as funny as Gilbert making 4 million though. Or Horcoff at 5.5...or Penner at 4.25...and the list goes on.

damn I didn't realize Gilbert was making that much! He is like the turnover king. Everytime I see him play, he turns the puck over.

I don't think it's a bad signing. 3 million isn't terrible for a RFA d-man that had the season he had for them and is being retained in Edmonton. Too bad it isn't longer term.

This kid looks like he'll be a good d-man... ~40pts for a 25 year old d-man is pretty damn good, especially on the Oilers.

That's about where Kronwall was when we signed him for 3 mill... of course that was a long term contract (thankfully, since he's worth much more than that now). Now Kroner's a top 10 in defensive scorer and Holland looks like a genius again. But at the time it was definitely a risky signing.

I think he`s overated, being from up here, unfortunately I get to see alot of Oilers games, and he always seems to have bad turnovers and just dumb plays at the most critical times, but you cant argue with 40 points, we`ll see how he does now.

The fact of the matter is that bottom feeder teams have to overpay for free agents, you'd hope they would only do it for the right free agents though.

Very true. Some (most) teams can't just calmly offer players their true market value because there's a big risk they'll end up with no one. And when there's cap space, why not? That's why there are so many over-payments.

Not really, when Kronwall signed, he was a 25 year old that had 47 games, 2 goals and 14pts to his NHL career.
