Biggest winners/losers in this offseason?

Easier with losers:

Anaheim (nothing left of the impressive 07 championship team)

Chicago (if they don't win the cup this year they are screwed with numbers of RFA/UFA next season and some overpaid contracts like campbell's and huet's)

Montreal (Replacing med/high skilled euros with med/high skilled NA's + their huge contracts, losing their most important player in komisarek and getting a pretty conservative coach)

Winners ought to be some team who locked up key players and/or didnt lose many players and replaced with impact players

Philly (keeping together the team + adding top5 defenseman in the league in pronger + some other nasty player i cant remember the name of)

Detroit yeah we did lose Hossa (if we just get expected producetion from new players eaves, bertuzzi, williams + helm and leino with expected production and maybe one of them surprises and have a great season) pretty reasonable situation, maybe too early to judge but they did lock up franzen and zetterberg to cap friendly long term contracts. AND last but not least if they start playing D like the 07-08 season, this team should be a better team imo

What do you think?

I hope the penguins turn out to be loosers with the holes on defence, their Gm is pretty good at recognising what the team needs at the trade deadline however.

I think the biggest winner might just be the leafs. Maybe not so much from a run for the cup senario but more along the lines of getting fans real excited for a season.

I dont think see how the red wings can be considered winners. But they certainly aren't losers.. Penguins lost alot. And re-signing bill guerin cannot be a good thing in my eyes.

I'd say phill and chicago are the biggest winners. The wings will be the biggest winners next year, and chicago will be the biggest losers..

Would the Red Wings have been a much bigger winner in offseason signings, compared to other teams, if they had waited to sign Franzen and Zetterberg?

I think this team has done a good job in not overpaying this offseason. The signings of Eaves and Bertuzzi, I feel were quality, low risk signings. I am not real happy about the Williams deal, but he is here, and I believe he can produce, clutch like Sammy. Maybe, maybe not.

But not giving into to Samuelssons and Kopeckys demands were justified. And even though an excellent goal scorer in Hossa is gone, it freed up a fair amount of money to pay for some decent pluggers. That Hossa deal on top of the Franzen, and Z deals would have crippled this team for the next few seasons, especially with an unstable Cap number coming. The only thing for me that sucks in all of this, is losing a solid back up or tandem goaltender in Conklin. But we all knew he would need more money and be gone.

The teams I felt that have improved are Montreal, Toronto, LA, and Minnesota.

Teams that have gone backwards I feel are Anaheim, SJ, Calgary, Nashville, and Florida.

As someone said i dont think we were winners in free agency although i liked what we did with the execption of the Williams deal but we did lose a ton of talent. The Winners imo were the Lightning they added Ohlund, Tanguay drafted Hedman watch out for the lightning this year IMO, also Philly adding Pronger was a good move for them i really see Philly coming out of the east, Emery if he has is head right is a pretty damn good goalie.

The Losers are Buffalo they did absolutly nothing, the Rangers also paid way to much for Gaborik who might give them 40 games a year and i think im being kind when i say that.
