wingfan40 1 Report post Posted September 18, 2009 Red Wings' Henrik Zetterberg (groin) to sit tonight by Ansar Khan Friday September 18, 2009, 11:32 AM DETROIT -- Red Wings center Henrik Zetterberg sore groin flared up in the morning, forcing him to sit out tonight's preseason game against the New York Rangers at Joe Louis Arena. Zetterberg said he's not too concerned about it. He doesn't expect to play Saturday against Buffalo but is hopeful to make his preseason debut sometime next week. "Felt a little tight this morning after I stretched out,'' Zetterberg said. "We'll see how it is during the week and shoot for Monday (at Rangers). With good treatment, and smart thinking I'll be back pretty soon. "I've been on the ice long enough now. It would be nice to get a few (preseason games) in, that's what we're shooting for.'' Said coach Mike Babcock: "I don't know if 'can't play' is the right word. We chose to keep him off another day. I don't know if he's going tomorrow or we'll keep him off until next week.'' Justin Abdelkader will take Zetterberg's spot on the line with Dan Cleary and Todd Bertuzzi. Cory Emmerton will replace Abdelkader on the line with Kirk Maltby and Johan Ryno and Babcock said Evan McGrath will be inserted into the lineup. He would center the line with Mattias Ritola and Jan Mursak. The Ville Leino-Valtteri Filppula-Jason Williams line stays intact. -- Center Darren Helm skated briefly on his own today, without equipment. He sprained his AC joint on Monday and is estimated to be sidelined two-to-four weeks. "Doing a little physio, not a whole lot of heavy weights, keeping my lower body strong, ride the bike every day, slowly jumping back into strengthening up,'' Helm said. _________ Somewhere in this forum i read a response from someone the other day questioning when McGrath would play......So there you go, he'll be in tonight thanks to Z's fragile groin. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted September 18, 2009 Sounds good to me-- there's no need to risk further aggravating that groin for a preseason game. I'd rather they held him out until he's 100% healthy. The preseason is for evaluating prospects and getting the regulars warmed up, so trading a warm up for one guy for an evaluation for another sounds good to me. Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted September 18, 2009 This presents a nice oppertunity for a few young guys. I like McGrath so it's good to see him getting a shot, perhaps a little concerning that he wasn't in the team to begin with seeing as though he's coming off a good season. Great oppertunity for Abdelkader to centre the first line. Will Ritola-McGrath-Mursak be the 3rd or 4th line? Hopefully the 3rd but chances are it's the 4th. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted September 18, 2009 Just wanted to be the first to say, "Alteast it happened now rather than right before the postseason." No worries. It's not like Hank's competing for a job and this just gives others a chance to gain some experience.
Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted September 18, 2009 Sorry everyone. I promise I'll be back at 100% for the season with a healthy groin. Performing such miracles as: walking (skating) on water, turning Bertuzzi into a viable power forward again and sticking it to Emma Andersson. In all seriousness, it's good to see that McGrath is going to get a chance to show his stuff. This is quite possibly the biggest game of his life, to this moment anyway. Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted September 18, 2009 I should hope so, haha. If Hank actually said "sticking it to Emma Andersson" I don't think he'd have her.

The Mule 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2009 Just as Drake said, there's no need to risk aggravating the injury more in a meaningless pre-season game, so I'm glad to hear Zetts will be sitting tonight. Besides, it's nice to get a look at some of the young guys this time of year. With that said, I'm hoping the Leino-Flip-Willy line can do some serious damage. Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted September 18, 2009 With that said, I'm hoping the Leino-Flip-Willy line can do some serious damage. This. I want to see if the intrasquad play was legit. This could be a pretty sweet third line if they keep producing.

I'm pretty sure he's capable of immaculate conception. She'll be pooping out Z Jr.'s until she's 60.
