deetroit dario 27 Report post Posted September 20, 2009 sweet! another wing-nut with a soft spot for the jackets!! i'm a former detroiter stuck in indiana, and its only a 3 hr ride to go see a jackets game, so i've kind of adopted them as my team-away-from-home. plus, i smell an intense rivalry brewing between the wings and jackets (they've gotta hate us for the sweep...we couldn't even let them win one game in their playoff debut? hells no we couldn't!), and i feel its gonna be one of the more entertaining rivalries to watch in the coming years (provided cbj keep developing and improving at the current rate)... as for jay-dub, i'm not quick to forget his first run with us, but i'm a bit quicker to believe he's improved quite a bit since then. he did look a lot better in many of the games i saw last year...like you said, not "the future" or "effing brilliant", but "better" and "good" do apply. i see where the cynics and haters are coming from, and i don't expect anyone to have an about face based on his thusfar lone preseason game. myself, lets say i'm "reluctantly optimistic" about him...i'll be unkind when he eff's up, and when he does well i'll be effusive. as for bert, well....you asked for a calgary fan's take, and i'm not one...but when have i ever held tongue? i just hope i don't have to watch him take a shot, only to have his arms literally rip out of their sockets and go flying along with the puck and his stick on goal.... Ya i could see the rivalry picking up too, like you said though it all depends on the Jackets and what they do to the wings. Right now wings fans don't have much to go on as for hating Columbus. A part of me wants that to happen. Last years playoffs i almost got into a fight with fans in the parking garage, fn savages. lol about bertuzzi... that's good stuff. Right now wings fans don't have much to go on as for hating Columbus. A part of me wants that to happen. Last years playoffs i almost got into a fight with fans in the parking garage, fn savages. lol about bertuzzi... that's good stuff. lol, well i've stated elsewhere that we've already got that healthy ohio/michigan hatred to help tip the scales a bit, so thats chit 1 for our tally... yes, it does depend on the jackets continuing to improve and how they handle the wings in the future, but i've also said elsewhere that its less about wings hating jackets, and more about the kind of motivational hatred they must be feeling after that sweep. i liken it to the fire that colorado lit under our asses, and how we used that seething hatred to bond as a team and rise to the next level, where we've sat ever since... now, fortunately the jackets don't have to look at any assholeish violence caused to one of their teammates (not one of us will ever be as bad as claude! and don't say bert, cause at least that guy appeared remorseful...plus he wasn't a wing when he fell), but that only reinforces my opinion that they can positively channel all that disappointment and hatred into something positive for the team. other benefits to a heated rivalry would be proximity...hardcore fans of both teams aren't looking at too tremendous a road trip to see games live, which is only good for both clubs (though not necessarily for anyone caught with rabid garage-dweller-savages like you contended with!). hell, if the league saw the rivalry drawing interest, they might schedule a game on the same night as the UofM/OSU football game, or at least the same weekend...double the rivalry, double the sports, double the revenues! (haha...geddit? i said the league would do something useful to further grow a newer hockey market! okay...it was a subtle joke, but i promise it was one!) anyway, i'm rambling. mostly, i'm just glad to know that someone else out there gets a concept i've been stating since jay-dub came out of the box for serving that too many men penalty... and lets wish the jackets a wonderful season, especially against chicago (but not us)! sureWhyNot 19 Report post Posted September 21, 2009 Hello all! I am a big fan of this site as I've been coming here for years (mostly for links to stories), and now that i'm finally registered I figured I'd contribute. Funny thing is Jason Williams of all players is the topic that prompted me to throw my opinion out there. I would imagine most of you are living in michigan, and thats what separates me from most fans as I'm from Ohio (Columbus). I am a Hybrid fan, so to speak, as I am first and foremost a Wings fan and will continue to be so for the rest of my life. I love the Jackets too, but when Detroit rolls into town I call for nothing less than the Jackets head on a stick (1st round games were amazing down here last playoff). Well, enough background crap. From seeing a hefty share of Jason Williams here in Columbus last year, I say that most of you have drastically underestimated this guy and what he'll provide for the team. Williams did seem to cruise some nights when he played for us before, but since he left Detroit I believe he's learned to play harder. He had to play without the comfort of knowing 3 other lines could pick up slack if needed, and that (I believe) changed his play. If I did not see him play so much last year I know I would definitely be on the "what was Holland thinking" train, and highly annoyed with the signing. Holland did his homework (again) and made a good decision in signing jason especially when considering our cap issues this year. I'll go out on a limb and say Williams will get 20+ goals (somewhere around 40 - 50 pts) and be responsible in our own end. Not bad when considering the money. Bertuzzi, well I have different opinions on this signing. Maybe we can get someone from Calgary to give us their thoughts? Well it looks like Jason Williams has found the forum.
