Ozzie

Did anyone else notice that Ozzie switched back to the Brians for todays game?

I think that he looked quicker in these pads then in the vapors he was wearing in game 1. He was controlling rebounds bettter, getting in better position for second shots, and above all coming out and challenging with more confidence.

I wonder if the Brians are back to stay. I hope so since he practiced with the Brians while playing in the Itechs last year, which hurt him. So hopefully he learned his lesson and will go Brians for the year...at least until the all star break when he gets 2 more weeks to break the nbvapors in.

Nice spot! I didn't even notice. Well clearly he's playing fantastic in them, so why change a good thing? :) If keeping the Brians pads works for him then there's no reason to switch (he's already struggled to find more of his favourite helmet, so why not be super picky about old pads too?). Are those pads out of production now or something? Did he ever say why he switched?

From what I have noticed MOST goalies change their pads every year. This is because the new models are designed every year, and whether it be their endorsers or themselves, they wear new stuff. Historically Ozzie is not one to do so in thaat he has worn same pads for upwards of 3 years in a row at times.

Also its not that he found Brians. They are straight up the Brians he wore last year, you can tell from all the puck spots on them.

Ozzie seems like a picky kind of guy with equipment.

I'm surprised you don't see more NHLers, goalies especially, who are picky about their equipment. I know when I played I cuoldnt stand getting new stuff unless it was a helmet or something that didnt matter in terms of comfort

Goalies are historically a quirky breed. Some might chalk it up to superstition with Ozzie and a subconscious issue with the new equipment, but I think he just knows what works for him. Sure, he tries the new stuff, but it always comes back to the stuff that works. Look at Shanny and his pads. Sentimental value? Sure. But it works for him.

I say, more power to Ozzie for taking control and doing his best to maintain his game.

Those things were awesome, they were so deteriated I don't think they did any actual protecting.

He didn't really care about the protection part. He wanted to be able to get all the torque he could into his shots.

hey, if the brians work, stick with em!

parallel example from the golf world....vijay singh. guy is always tinkering...new putter every week, new driver, new freakin' grips if he hits a shot he doesn't like. at least...he used to be that way. he stopped for a while....won a LOT. then he got back into tinkering...

at risk of sounding like a 50s sex education film....get to know your equipment! and when you know its right for you, stick with it...endorsement deals be damned!

No because it is the system.

Durr.

I used to think that way. But then Osgood carried winning records with the Isalanders. And then he carried winning records with the Blues. The Islanders and Blues! To never have a losing season in your NHL career is quite an accomplishment, considering the number of seasons and games this guy has played. Chris Osgood is flat out a winner.
