Ross McKeon apparently doesn't feel it necessary to actually watch hockey before making universal statements.

15. Detroit Red Wings (10-6-4, Previous: 19) – The Wings have looked merely mortal, but is it any surprise after opening the season abroad and facing goaltending challenges similar to those they encountered early last season? The division they play in is vastly improved from two to three years ago, so it’s not that the Wings are getting worse as much as everyone else is getting better. The record nine straight 100-point seasons could end.

Right. The goaltending hasn't really been horrible. What has been very bad is having lost two key scorers in the first month of the season, plus another important one a couple of weeks later.

Smart, McKeon.

Osgood has been shaky at the very least this year, and regardless of what numbers Howard puts up, he has a scarlett letter on his chest for being a rookie who hasn't made the roster any of the past four years. If he doesn't get consecutive shutouts, he's doing poorly in the eyes of the media. Especially if the Wings are losing. The first thing people look at is who was in net? Oh, just that kid Howard who has been trying to make the team for the past few years now. Not saying that I agree with it, but I think there's some truth there.

I do have to agree with you in saying that its our skaters who have been the weakest link in the chain, and not the goaltending (at least on most nights). The good news is they have steadily improved since day 1 and the new blood is finally showing decent chemistry with everyone else (Bertuzzi is somehow lagging behind though).

It's not like he is making up a bunch of nonsense. Obviously he isn't painting a nice picture of the Wing's, but they certainly aren't as good as they have been. Goaltending while it has been better as of late, was arguably the worst in the league the first couple weeks, neither Osgood nor Howard had a GAA or SAA in the top 25.
