We Should Have Gooned it Up These Last Two Games

Rate this topic

This team is showing no emotion or drive on the ice and it's feeding over and making the fans lackadaisical as well. I don't care if they goon it up or not, however I've watched the sport for 20 years and I understand the premise. I just want them to show a little heart and that's even asking too much.

It's simple; the guys that take 1 bad penalty for physical play Holland sends to GR. The physical guys are timid to play their style game under the Red Wings system. It's really a handcuffed type deal.

Babcock's system (=the modern & the best playing style in the world right now) requires guys that can pass the puck and react quickly with it. Most tough guys don't fit into that description.

Babcock lost some of my respect for these last two games.

Divisional games against rivals and the games were blowouts. Yet he didn't even try to goon it up or send them a message late in these games.

And enough of this "we're a classy organization" s***. Sending rivals a message is a part of hockey. There's nothing dirty or improper or unclassy about it. They did the same stuff to us last year in the playoffs.

This would have been a good way to bring this team together and inject some life into them. Instead, May and Janik were benched for the 3rd and the team looked lifeless as it skated off the ice.

What game did you watch. Bert, Helm and Abby were hitting guys left and right. Stuart was to busy covering for rookie D-men and Kronawll was out. I don't think we played soft at all.

The bad blood between the Wings and the Blackhawks does not even NEARLY (!!!!!!) approach that which existed between the Wings and the Avalanche back then.

NOT EVEN CLOSE!

!!!!

HORRIBLE comparison, HORRIBLE argument.

For the Hawks to even get close to the Avs rivalry, the Hawks will have to actually hang with us in the playoffs when the games count. We had 1 series against the Hawks last year and it was a blow-out.

The Hawks are wanabee rivals, that's all.

I watched the Hawks play the Sharks the other night and frankly, I was impressed with the Hawks EXCEPT for Huet who looked terrible. He has great numbers only because the Hawks defense is good but I don't see them going far with Huet in goal.

What the heck are you talking about?

Kronwall and Stuart look timid with the hits that they put on guys?

Two bad losses for sure, but they were two games in December. You don't send messages in December. Maybe if you're the Sharks or the Hawks you think you do, but let's wait until March at least before we start the histrionics.

They are scared of big Buff, thats why they didnt do anything.

Maybe it is because we are a respectable hockey team that doesnt go out there looking for fights. Did you ever think of that?

On the occasions when Wings have gone out there looking for fights, were they not respectable?

Have I ever made one good argument on LGW as far as you're concerned?

Something tells me you're a little biased against the OP.

As long as fighting is legal in hockey, there's nothing unrespectable about challenging other teams to a fight.

It's part of the game.

No, I think it spawned more bad blood between the teams, which does make players play harder against a team that they hate.

None of our players tonight played like they hate the Blackhawks, who are right now the best team in the division. We needed to send this division leader a message and failed to do so.

If you read the book on the Av's Wings rivarly you will find out that, that game and gooning really did have an affect on both Av's and Wings lockerroom. Yes I do agree we should have shown emotion, if a team is more talented all you can do to win is out hustle and punish them, we refused and so we looked like a bunch of heartless cowards.

FAIL post is FAIL.

Draper took 1, and Maltby took 2, roughing penalties last game. Are they going to GR now?

Holland and Babcock don't have the balls to send messages to players that have been on the team for a while. I mean look how long it took for them to finally tell Ozzy he was playing like s*** last year.

'Zactly. If you can win the game, by all means, win the game! If your team sucks (for whatever reason) and you can't win the game, do SOMETHING for your home fans that spent their hard-earned dollars to pay your salary.

Yes.

I don't see that as a fault on Babcock, because it isn't Babcock who is throwing the punches and trying to stand up for himself out there. And I don't think a coach should have to tell players to stand up for themselves at that level.

Unless you are saying Ozzie should have started a fight last night, bringing him into the argument is a strawman. I know we like to abuse Ozzie, but let's do in threads where it's *actually* relevant.

Oh, you're right---now I remember. Chicago beat us in the western conference finals last season, and in the process they put one of our players in the hospital with an incredibly dirty hit. We seriously need revenge, and it'd absolutely fire the team up if they settled the score! I'm sure they're chomping at the bit for it!

No, wait... we obliterated Chicago in the WCF last season, and the closest thing to an injurious play was Kronwall's hit on Havlat. This team does not have any accumulated animosity towards Chicago. Fighting random people just because of some mild divisional rivalry will fire them up not at all.

Have you ever written a thesis paper before?

I wish I could say no. Unfortunately too many is the answer. I don't come here to write thesis papers, however. Neither do you for that matter.

Oh and Chicago did try to goon it up against us last year in the playoffs. Most notably in game 4. I just want to see this team play with some passion, instead of sitting on their asses and waiting for Franzen or whoever else to return. Apparently many others agree with me.

there is no more pathetic thing than "goon up" in the already lost game.

Wings team have been treated in the same way: Red Wings' players did not lost their confidence, opponents gain neither "respect" nor confidence when opponents did try to um... "send a message"

Don't fool yourselves here.

I think most of the rant comes from the fact that Wings' fans are so spoiled with success. therefore losing is like a tragic event - oh why oh why why we did not see "epic last man standing battle". In reality, half of the league loses every day so there is nothing spectacular.

Losing is very common result in NHL. Better get used with this side too.
