swiss_redwingfan 5 Report post Posted January 8, 2010 In our swiss league, only 3 players are still playing with a wood-stick. does anybody know if any of the red wings players are still going with wood sticks or have all of them changed to carbon? aside of the much lower price for wood-sticks, our 3 wood-stick players claim that they have a better puck control, because the have a better feeling for the puck. on the other side, wooden sticks are expected to be less harmful for the wrists, because they are softer. easton, bauer and reebok have stopped their production of wooden sticks and it will be difficult in the near future to buy wooden sticks. Yellowknife Redwing 57 Report post Posted January 8, 2010 The only NHLers I'm aware of that still use wooden sticks are Paul Stastny and Fredrik Modin. Even Jason Spezza switch recently, as far as I know.
shoe 165 Report post Posted January 8, 2010 I think more players should use wood sticks, especially stay at home defencemen types. I hate seeing those carbon fiber sticks blow up and mess up potential goal scoring opportunities. I can recal there was a radio show on 590 here in toronto they were talking about how cujo was saying when they used wood sticks you could count on players tendancies and where they would shoot. With the new sticks shots didnt have the same accuracy or it was put that carbon sticks are for a certain type of player a shooter a goal scorer. They had the hands to control to use the carbon stick properly. Id actually like to see a whole team go back to wood sticks for a few games just to see what happens. It would be a shame if wood sticks did just disapear though I bet a lot of kids who just want to play some street hockey would suffer, its a lot easier to buy a $10 - $20 wood stick than $50 +. I dont know how many sticks I broke back in the days but my parents wouldn't fund that kind of wear on expensive carbon fiber sticks.

Just because they are very rarely used in the NHL, it doesn't mean they would take wooden sticks off the market. Not everyone wants to pay $50+ for a graphite stick... over 50% of people playing pick up hockey still use wood sticks, along with several others.

You can actually watch BeeRYCE shopping for wooden hockey sticks in his AVATAR!!
MotorCityMadness 388 Report post Posted January 8, 2010 While I was playing college hockey I used wood sticks for practice and then would use my carbon ones in games...always felt a little lighter during the game gave me the feeling that I could shoot a little harder...plus I had unlimited access to them since nobody else used them
