Wow, what a surprise that the officials blow yet another call. I've almost learned to live with the nightly lame-ass, non-existent hooking, tripping or interference calls but now these pinheads can't even get replay calls right. More good news ahead for the ongoing joke called hockey officiating....

Seven National Hockey League referees and six NHL linesmen were named on Thursday to work at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver next February. The referees are Paul Devorski, Mark Joannette, Dennis LaRue, Bill McCreary, Dan O'Halloran, Chris Rooney and Brad Watson. The linesmen include Shane Heyer, Jean Morin, Brian Murphy, Thor Nelson, Tim Nowak and Jay Sharrers.

Bowman for commish Bettman must GO!!!!

I just think it's funny that the first commentary I saw on the goal was during the first intermission of the Chicago game the next day. That was the NBC feed and the commentators aren't even affiliated with Detroit and yet they said it was a terrible call and a no goal.

I don't get how in a shootout when the goal line judge has nothing else to look at but the goalie and the puck, somehow the other refs don't trust his judgment.

If they really don't trust his judgment then they shouldn't have that guy at the goal line, since it is his sole job at that point to decide whether or not the puck went in.

Gotta love Hollands take on the goal. Though no words, maybe just an action.

From Kuklas Korner

I guess Holland's not afraid to really give it to someone when he feels his team's been wronged. Wasn't it against Calgary, where Mule got 2-handed by McLennan, Iggy speared Schneider (I think) and some ****** punched Lebda after a clean hip-check (maybe that wasn't the same game) that Holland was screaming at an off-ice official and said something like "Then give them some ******* suspensions."

yeah but per some on this board we shouldn't be complaining about it cause we are idiots...then i ask what is holland if even he didn't like it?

Thank you for trying to explain the call, but you still don't have it quite right. Martell was the ref closest to the play. Leggo was the trailing ref. Martell ruled "no goal" and a conference of all on-ice officials occurred soon after. Leggo, the trailing ref, and a linesman said that they had saw the puck cross the line. Leggo and the linesman overruled Martell's initial "no goal" call and the call on the ice was changed to "good goal". The important part to understand is that all of this occurred before the call to Toronto came down. Therefore, it is now up to Toronto to prove with conclusive video evidence that the "good goal" call should be reversed. Toronto ruled that the video replays were inconclusive, so by default, the on-ice decision stands, which was "good goal".

This seems cut and dried. It was ruled a good goal on the ice and everything worked out as it should have according to the rules. Of course key questions remain: 1. How does a ref with his unobstructed nose 4 feet from the play get overruled by 2 guys who are ... where again? This reminds me of the grassy knoll.

First off all the problem started about 12 shooters before Ott (really after the lockout) A skills competition is the worst way to decide a game with PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS!

I hate the shoot out, play 10 min 4-4, no goal 10 min 3-3, still no goal untimed 3-3 until it is over!

Something anything has to be better than the shootout.

3 point system needs to go away, instigator needs to go, Trapezoid needs to go, intent to blow the whistle needs to go away, they need to put mini cams in the pipes and cross bars, replay needs to be tweaked, any rule that ends with Referee discration needs to be re-evaluated until the refs can efficiently and effectively follow the game and officiate it, the Refs need a summer camp every year to get better and more on the same page as to what is a hook, trip, goaltender interference, etc...

This league needs some serious tweaking in the off season, or fellow fans we are headed for another lockout or the end of the league. These bulls*** rules that are hitting every team in the league are alienating long time die hard fans, and nothing that I can see is really helping the league get new fans.

It is what it is. I don't know what goes on in practice, but the reality is that points are on the line every night there is a shoot-out. If I am Mike Babcock, I coach around this reality such that I max my chance for points. It seems clear that shoot-outs are not a priority for the Wings based on performance - though I can't fault Howard on the defensive side too much. The point is, sitting in 9th, maybe it becomes a point of focus, eh?
