henrik40 76 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 Ah nice, this will be a useful topic as I'm thinking about getting one on the back of my left shoulder. I'm thinking either the octopus or just a regular wings logo

NickA 39 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 Ive got a great story about a Wings tattoo. During the late spring of 1996 I was at Cedar Point and I saw some tool with a huge stanley cup tattoo on the back of his leg and it said "Detroit Red Wings 1996 Stanley Cup Champions" with the logo in the middle of the cup. I asked him about it and he said that there was no way we werent winning the cup that year (the 62 win season), and he wanted to have the tattoo before anyone else. I actually designed one pretty similar to that not too long ago haha.. I plan on getting a couple wings tats in the next month or two (my custom one and the octopus) so when I do I'll throw up some pictures.
XxGoWingsxX 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 I've actually been putting together a design for one. What I want to get is The wings logo sitting near the detroit D with the stanley cup breaking between the two of them. On the cup I want to write every year they've won in my lifetime, and If/when they do it again....I'll add that year.
NorCalGrl 9 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 My boyfriend is a tattooer and years ago he promised me that if the Wings win the cup, he would tattoo their logo on me. Finally, in 2008, they won! I ended up getting the classic logo in all red on the entire inside of my upper arm, and it's awesome! I can't believe the number of times I've been out at the bars or somewhere random and people will walk up to me and just start talking about the Wings. It's a trip, considering I live in Northern California.

Travis 576 Report post Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) Just saw this thread. I don't have one yet, but am definitely incorporating a version of the winged wheel into my sleeve. It's not going to be the traditional logo, but the idea is most certainly there. To be perfectly honest, unless you're going to a truly great tattoo artist a crisp concise logo with lots of straight lines and hard edges isn't necessarily the greatest idea. Having said that, even if you do go to a great tattoo artist there are all sorts of variables that come in with healing, aftercare, scabbing and the eventual spreading of ink. What I'm saying is, don't be disappointed if it doesn't look perfect - because it won't. There's really no such thing as a "perfect" tattoo. That's just the nerd in me nitpicking, though. Now, having said that, there were some really nice looking ones in the previous thread. Let's see some new ones! Edited January 22, 2010 by Travis
JayUp88 1 Report post Posted January 22, 2010 That tattoo looks good! How much did it cost you? It was around 200 I don't completely remember haha. Took a good 90 minutes - 2 hours to do.
Guest scottj Report post Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) If anybody's looking for a good tattoo artist in the detroit metro area I used to work for Eternal Tattoos (easily one of the best tattoo companies in michigan) as a body piercer... they have Caryl Cunningham and Dennis Warner. They're both the best artists I have seen around this area. Eternal also has locations in Howell, Eastpointe, Livonia, and Clawson. (in which they have Jay Wheeler and Tom Renshaw, both recognized over the world for their work) ink does spread but it's not gonna be as bad as that 70 year old ex-sailors tat you see at meijers cause back then they didn't know as much as we do now about the effects of certain aspects of tattooing. tattoo artsits know now how to prevent the ink from spreading and caryl and dennis will tell you before hand if they think the detail in your tattoo is going to end up looking like a blob because of the ink spreading. Caryl Cunningham has her own site Caryltattoo.com and then there's EternalTattoos.com also... they're not ridiculously expensive but they are more expensive than that s*** shop down the street. and rightfully so, this is gonna be on you for forever so pay good money for a good tattoo. unless you get lucky, a truly great tattoo artist isn't gonna give you a tattoo for too cheap so basically, if you go to those guys for a red wings logo or something of the sort, i pretty much guarantee that you will be happy with your tattoo edit: also, if you look at caryls site she has a picture of a pistons logo she did just in case you wanted to look at it Edited January 22, 2010 by scottj
