I had a dream that he signed three consecutive 1 year, $4 million deals. Is $4 too much?

I think term will be important on any new contract for Nick. If they give him more than a year, unless he is on LTIR, that cap hit counts. So, if he says two years, he better mean two years. Depending on what happens with the CBA and when the two sides decide to re-negotiate, you might only see a contract up until that date.

Perhaps I exaggerated my numbers a bit, but you have to remember he's turning 40. 40.....thats a big freakin number and no doubt, we should assume his play will decline a bit. Perhaps a one year 3/3.5 mil then.

Asuming the same rate of ecline from last year to this year, I'd be in the $3.5-4m range. I'd go the extra half a mil so he's paid more than Stuart and Kronner, and because he's still better than them. We have to admit, he's still make $6m+ on the open market.

Lidstrom if he comes back will be in the 2-5 mill a year range no lower no higher ! I agree Lidstrom could get top dollar still somewhere else, but then again he probably could have left years ago and got more then the 7.5 he got from the wings. Lidstrom seems like a loyal ungreedy guy and if he knows by taking the big pay cut could help out the team, get some more players and potentially get the team and Lidstrom another cup i have a feeling he would do it.

If Lidstrom signs at $4m, and Jiri Hudler returns from Russia, then the Wings will have 7 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 2 goalies signed for next season with about $9.14 remaining in cap space based on this year's cap.

That leaves 5 forwards to sign, plus up to 3 spares. Notable RFAs include Derek Meech, Justin Abdelkader, Darren Helm, Drew Miller, and Patrick Eaves. Notable UFAs include Andreas Lilja, Brett Lebda, Doug Janik, Tomas Holmstrom, Jason Williams, Todd Bertuzzi, and Kirk Maltby. helm and abby probably get a mill each eaves might get 750,000, they probably wont sign maltby and fill his spot with abby and holmstrom probably gets a 1 or 2 yr 1.5mill a season. the wings know they cant be giving everyone big raises and im sure holmstrom will take whatever they offer i doubt he will want to leave.

well as much as an ice cold start to the season Lidstrom had, he's been on fire since then.

considering his career, his status, i think he deserves whatever he asks, but with that in mind, i think Lidstrom may very do what other great wings have done in taking a low base salary to free up room to negotiate with other players
