Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted May 11, 2010 (edited) Regardless of how many trophies the Wings win, or how many all-star players pass through the rosters, nothing really sucks me into the game quite like facing a hated rival, and I'm sure many will agree with me. Fortunately I was able to experience the glory days back when Yzerman, Shanny, and the Russian Five were constantly pitted against Sakic, Forsberg, Lemieux, and the rest of the Avs. Even looking past the fights that occured, when the Wings and Avs faced each-other it was like an unstoppable force hitting an immovable object. Through that span the Wings earned three Cups and Colorado won two, and in most cases, the teams ended up playing against each other for the right to make it to the Finals each season. If we were to assume that the Wings would have gone on to win the Cup had Colorado not been in their path for the years the Avs won, would you be willing to sacrifice the rivalry that developed between these teams for a couple extra Cups to the Wings' history? In other words, do you think the memories that resulted from being involved in such a rivalry are more valuable than an extra Stanley Cup or two? Finally, do you think that any rivalry, perhaps not as heated as Det/Col (ie Pens and Caps for instance) is worth sacrificing an opportunity at a Cup to experience?
