Question about free agents

With Cord, Archie and Parkes trying out at the prospect camp for a contract basically, when will we see if they get one? Do they just wait and decide in the next bit or will these players also go to the wings camp later in the summer to try and earn a contract?

Also, can anyone find a scouting report on Cord? I can find literally nothing on the guy except that he played 10 games with Mississauga last season and had 2 fights

if they like them they will offer them a contact. if they really like a guy then they may get one before traverse city. I think they were impressed with all the invitees and at the least will get another look in traverse city camp.

regarding cord i think you answered your own question. we know he is tough but thats about it. until he plays a full season in the ohl we don't have much to go by.

If it helps any, when guys like Lashoff and Raedeke impressed the Red Wings 2 years ago they got their contracts after Traverse City... sometimes in late Sept-early Oct. I don't know if the same situation applies here, but it's a guess.

Is Mitchell Callahan eligible to play in Detroit next year if he really impresses?Maybe that could be why Kenny hasn't acquired any grit this offseason.Maybe Mitchell Callahan and/or Darren Archibald are really tearing it up.

i dont think callahan makes the team although i wouldn't be against it if he did. kenny did talk about giving the kids a chance. He should get some pre season games though. If archie gets a contract he will most likely play in GR or Toledo.

I actually just stumbled on a video where Holland says that this prospects camp is more for information to the players... what they need to work on etc. He mentions that they're going to be invited back for Traverse City and that's when they'll really evaluate them.

It's the 2nd video after the Jiri Fischer mic'd up one.

Okay thanks guys. So basically its if they really thought they were great they'll get one now, but all of them will be back in Traverse for main camp and maybe some preseason games to earn a contract?

As for Callahan making the team, I really, really doubt it. I would love him to be up but at the same time, I would rather him stay back in Kelowna and get bigger and stronger. He's still fairly small to be playing the game he does in the NHL. A year in the very tough AHL would also be great for him because he'll get to try himself against NHL calibre tough guys with the Griffs.

I don't think he will spend as long with the griffins as scoring prospects usually do because his game doesn't need his scoring to be refined, he just needs to throw hits, fight and piss people off which regardless of NHL or AHL he will be able to do.

The sooner Callahan is in Detroit, the better. Can't wait.Anyone heard anything about Landon Ferraro?

From the sounds of it he seems like he is trying to pull his head out of his ass and make next season a good one. We will see.

I think it was Malik from Mlive who said Ferraro looks the most skilled out of anyone at the prospects camp. It would be sweet to see him come out firing next season and work his way on to team Canada. Maybe him and Sheahan can both make it
