Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted September 2, 2010 Now that training camp is right around the corner, and many players remain without jobs, its about time for players to receive camp invites. Now I know we don't have much roster space, but many teams have spots to be had. So by listing these players, I'm not suggesting Detroit is after every single one, although I do believe they will send invites to a few players. Plenty talent is still out there: Ruslan Fedotenko-Seems to play well in the playoffs Bill Guerin-Can still produce Owen Nolan-Still plays a gritty style. Would be a nice veteran presence for a younger team Mike Comrie-Hilary Duff in the stands.... Brian McGrattan-Tough guy looking for a job Darcy Tucker-Veteran pest who I believe still has something left Adam Mair-Would be a solid 4th line center for any team. Matt Hendricks-Brings snarl and a bit of a scoring touch Nick Tarnasky-I wouldn't mind seeing him here. Shane Hnidy-Tough stay at home defenseman Paul Mara-Veteran, grizzly defenseman Jay McKee-Veteran shut-down defenseman Donald Brashear-Gotta think someone will give this guy a chance. Jere Lehtinen-Undecided on whether he still wants to play Garnet Exelby-Snarly defenseman still without a job Wayne Primeau- Veteran 4th liner who has said his first choice would be to stay with Toronto Steve Begin-Solid bottom 6 guy. Boston seems to have cut ties Patrick O'Sullivan-No work ethic, but can provide some offense Scott Walker-Veteran bottom 6 guy Ryan Johnson-Defensively solid 4th liner. Faceoff specialist Thoughts? There's a few guys on that list I wouldn't mind seeing here. Discuss
Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted September 2, 2010 No one on that list interests me at all, mostly because our team is already set (in fact, we have too many players). Maybe if we hadn't already signed Salei, Bert, and Modano we could have a nice competition for the final spots, but I wouldn't want to see the Wings bail on one of the guys we just gave a contract to, nor get rid of any more of the young guys we have coming up. Perhaps if there was anyone on that list who was actually good (but still cheap), but when Comrie is pretty much the best player you're offering, well... Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted September 2, 2010 I already clarified that I wasn't talking about Detroit..... I want to talk in general about who has roster space for camp invites. Thought I made it clear that I wasn't talking about us.....

A few could retire, a few probably end up in the KHL or another Euro league, and the rest probably get a spot at the bottom of some NHL roster where they won't make much difference. Always liked Nolan, it'd be nice if he gets a spot on a decent team somewhere. Maybe back in San Jose. I'm sure he'd like the chance to get past the 2nd round for once in his career, even if it's not the best chance.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted September 3, 2010 Something depresses me a bit about all these names going unclaimed. Seems like in the old days there weren't so many just fading away. Maybe it's rose colored glasses, but it seems like a lot of formerly high end talent just goes unclaimed, doesn't officially retire, and just hangs in some limbo between the KHL, NHL, AHL and unemployment. What is the CBA doing to the league?
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted September 3, 2010 Is Uwe Krupp a free agent? Seriously though at some point, you've got to admit your career is just about over, especially if you're a guy like Guerin, Tucker Nolan or Brashear, who are all in that 40 years of age range and don't really bring much of anything anymore. Just bite the bullet and sign a two-way deal if you like playing professional hockey so much and you're any of the above guys listed. I don't think you'll see many of the guys listed above sign between now and camp unless they're willing to go two-way, and potentially play in the A.
