Stanley in Houghton today!

This morning I got a message from my daughter who is a 2nd year student at Michigan Tech. She's taking a hockey class for a PE credit this semester. Today, the rink manager decided to be nice and resurface the ice half way through their class. As they waited on the bench, the rink manager stopped the Zamboni in front of the class and said "Hey, did you know the Stanley Cup is up there." and pointed to the lobby. Apparently, the guy that does video breakdown work for Chicago is from Hancock and it was "his day" with The Cup. My daughter's teacher then told the class that if they wanted to they could take their skates off and run up to see the trophy.. which they eagerly did!!! She was thrilled that she was allowed to touch it!

Picture of the cup at the Ambassador Bar (via facebook): http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/photo.php?pid=4841832&fbid=435460169669&id=268973969669&ref=nf

I'm a Michigan Tech alumnus (class of '03), and its great that the cup made it up to Houghton. Does anyone know if its been up there before? Wish I were at the Ambassador right now, eating a thin crust pizza, sucking down a fishbowl and staring at the Stanley Cup. Actually, scratch the fishbowl, I'd probably just ask to have my booze served from The Cup :cup:

Hmmm, there's a chance lightning may strike in my family two days in a row! We live near Kalamazoo and last night our older son (a HS Junior) got an e-mail from his hockey coach. It instructed the team to show up today at a location at our airport at 5 PM sharp. The players are to be in suits & ties, and bring their hockey gloves and sticks. The purpose of the event is to meet a "Special Guest". No other details were given. I also happen to know that the coach's wife is from Hancock, where the guy traveling with the cup yesterday is from. Hmmmmmm, would it be!?!?!? We'll see later today!
