casey holmstrom 14 Report post Posted September 17, 2010 (edited) I basically landed my dream job working for my local hockey team's video department. I made this Promotional video for them. Check it out. It'd really be awesome for me if you left a badass comment (on the youtube video itself) along the lines of... "holy crap this video rules, I'll be there opening night for sure!" You may recognize the "ecstasy of gold" remix that the Wings used on last years opening promo. It was just that epic they wanted the same thing over on the west side! If you aren't aware the Muskegon Lumberjacks were in the IHL last year, a bottom of the barrel "professional league" that spanned 7 teams across the Midwest, including Flint, Port Huron, Quad City, Fort Wayne, Bloomington and Dayton. Muskegon, Flint, and Port Hurons teams couldn't make another run financially and dropped from the league. We are the only one of those cities to have the #1 Tier 1 Junior league, in the US open up shop here. The USHL. As the video shows, this team rules. I can't wait for the season to start. Hope you enjoy. Also im interested. What are your thoughts on the topic, Low Pro League or Tier 1 Junior league. What would you prefer your town to have if it didn't have a team? Old Pros who can barely make a living playing hockey that can't hack the AHL, or really hungry 16-20 year olds fighting for spots on D1 college teams or higher. wingnut22 81 Report post Posted September 17, 2010 that was a very nice video, and I most likely will be there opening night! I am looking forward to seeing what this new team has to offer. I know I am going to miss the old Jacks too though I really liked those guys!
dobbles 252 Report post Posted September 18, 2010 as someone that was a fan in another of those former ihl markets (quad cities) i might say major junior. i say that because the ihl last year was painful to watch. though the players were paid professionals, i don't feel the on ice quality was very good. i would rather have the younger and hungrier junior players personally. however a ton of people get caught up on the fact that something is or isn't 'professional.' luckily for the quad cities, they made it to the chl this year with the other ihl teams that didn't fold. this should be a good move as the chl is close to equivalent with the echl as far as talent. i saw a few chl games last year while in tulsa and it was a much better product. if i were to choose between junior and chl, i would take chl. F2B&G 15 Report post Posted September 18, 2010 Don't mean to be a smarty pants, but the USHL technically isn't a major junior league. It's just Tier 1 Junior (and arguably the top league of its kind in North America, stacked up against the BCHL, AJHL and SJHL). If it was MJ, none of the players could make NCAA commitments. Gizmo 21 Report post Posted September 18, 2010 (edited) Nice video... You have no idea how glad I am that the K-Wings bolted for the ECHL when it was clear that the "IHL" was circling the porcelain. I hope the locals support your new team. I agree that young and hungry beats "next stop... the beer leagues" hockey! Really everyone knew Fort Wayne would win every single year. Do you know how sad and pathetic I felt for my town in the playoffs that year when it was louder in our arena after Fort Wayne scored than when Muskegon scored? How is Kalamazoo fairing in that league? I am really excited for this change our town is having in hockey. I am spending the weekend with the team in Evansville, IN getting paid pretty handsomely for doing some more video for them. I can't wait.
F2B&G 15 Report post Posted September 18, 2010 I'd leave a comment, but I'm not a YouTube member. Vid looks good though. Due to his recent commitment to Michigan Tech, I'll be keeping an eye on Andrew Kolb's progress this year.
Gizmo 21 Report post Posted September 18, 2010 We exceeded pretty much every expectation for a 1st year club. They won about 2/3 of their games. Won the division, but lost in the first round of the playoffs. The on-ice product was much improved over the "IHL".
ProngerSucks 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2010 Your video is pretty awesome, but Fort Wayne will always own Muskeegon no matter what league they're in. Belle Tire!
wingnut22 81 Report post Posted October 3, 2010 did you have anything to do with the video they showed on the new score board before the team came out? that one was awesome. I loved Bouch handing the stick off
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted October 3, 2010 I wouldn't have minded a USHL team in my hometown, but I suppose they wouldn't really fare well given the competition they'd face for attendance with the high schools and the University and all.
