It was whenever he got back from the drug suspension, if it WAS at the end of the 89 season, then yah, but I thought he came back in the 90 season? I may be wrong. I bought that exact same jersey in Detroit40oz's link from ebay for $100 blank, and had it customized with Yzerman for another $50.
