Vladimir316 28 Report post Posted January 10, 2011 I agree that West is much tougher to compete in. Just several teams in East would survive.. just my two cents.
w00p33 2 Report post Posted January 10, 2011 What I find happening since the lockout, season after season, is that the west has a lot more teams trying to make the playoffs still attainable at the last week of the schedule. Usually 4-5 teams still have a chance to get in. In the east it's usually just 2-3 teams. It doesn't mean west is better than east in the top tier or bottom tier teams, but it does point to stronger parity in the league's middle tier teams. That means better competition in the middle and the possibility that our middle tier teams (say MNW, CBJ) vs their middle (ATLT, NCH), if I were to bet, I'd bet on the western teams. The tops and bottoms of each conference are another story.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted January 11, 2011 The Western Conference is better overall. Vancouver and Detroit are the top two teams in the league as far as point percentage. The other two teams above the .650 mark are Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. One might say "Well, the Nucks and Wings are just beating up weak teams." Weak teams? Six of the eight worst teams by point percentage are Eastern teams. Five of the six worst. Three teams in the Northeast division are in the bottom eight, and yet the top two, Boston and Montreal, are just middle of the pack teams at 9th and 11th overall. So clearly it's not the division leaders beating up on Buffalo, Ottawa, and Toronto. Boston is leading the Northeast division, and yet they would be fourth in the Atlantic and third in the Southeast.
