Why do you think the Hawks will make the playoffs? They snuck in the backdoor this year and since then lost their best offensive defenseman in Campbell. AND they lost Kopy. ANd they gained a bunch of goons. I just don't see that they improved.

LOL.

Pittsburgh will finish top 4 in the conference with our without Crosby.

hahaha --- i thought you guys knew hockey? All you guys know is how to be a bunch of bumbling idiots.

lol too funny.

With Crosby yes, without Crosby doubtful. You obviously came on here to call people names, not to talk hockey.

This made me laugh, it's been so long they look funny in the mix. If Reimer plays like they think he's going to then they have a chance. Would be pretty sweet to see them in the playoffs again.

I've also always since I was a young kid loved the Wings-Leafs rivalry. We almost had a cup final with them but we ended up with Carolina instead. People around here (my home town) being an hour outside Toronto get so jacked up everyone turns into insane hockey fans when the Leafs make the playoffs, I miss that.

Agreed, it's why I picked them 8th.. It's a stretch perhaps, but I'll be rooting for it to happen big time, they've been growing on me for the last few years.

Young team coming off a championship -- they were bound to have a dropoff last season. Not to mention, they obviously lost a TON of depth which was the biggest reason they won it all in the first place. Brunette was a nice move; he's better than Kopecky. They still have elite talent up front and a shutdown top defensive pairing.

I do agree the Campbell loss was significant and I think their depth on defense is rather weak, which is why I picked the Red Wings to win the division. Beyond that, I expect the Blackhawks to bounce back and definitely make the playoffs. I think the Canucks, Sharks, Red Wings and Kings are locks to make the playoffs so which other four teams do you see as being better than Chicago?

You can make your case without calling our fan base "idiots". There are plenty of us here that agree the Penguins will finish at least top four in the East. In fact, if Crosby comes back, I think they are the favorites to win the conference.

1. Crosby played 41 games last season, exactly one half of the season. He scored 32 goals, 9 more than Kunitz and 11 more than Tyler Kennedy, the only two other 20-goal scorers on the team. Granted you'll be getting Malkin back, but your offense still leaves much to be desired. (fyi Crosby scored almost twice as many points as Malkin, 66-37, in 2 fewer games so don't count on Malkin's return too much).

2.Letang is a great offensive D-man but lacks defensively, Orpik is a nice physical #4, Martin is an OK all-around top 4 player, and the rest of your D sucks.

3. Fleury is overrated. He is a lot like Fuhr: solid enough to win behind a terrific team but unable to compensate for mediocrity.

4. The East is going to be really tough this year. Much tougher than recent years.

Is it impossible they'll sneak in? Yes. Are they a lottery team? No. Will they reach 100 points this season? Not a chance in hell. If the Penguins make the playoffs, barring a significant roster change the best they can hope for is 6th. Philadelphia will win that division by mid-march.

This is why I think IF they make it they'll be 7th or 8th.

How does Zbynek Michalek "suck"? The Penguins were one of the best defensive teams in the league last year. I don't think we have any room to be talking about lackluster defense and shoddy goaltending.

Ok, maybe "sucks" was a bad choice of words, he is not completely useless on the ice. He is an alright stay-at-home defenseman but is certainly not worth 4 million a year over 5 years. My opinion of him is mostly based on my perception that he is just another in a long list of serviceable players who got excessive contracts due to market conditions at the time. For $2 or $2.5 a year he could fit onto most teams as a #4, but for $4 million I'll take either Kronwall or Stuart and keep the change

I think you really overestimate STL's potential, I don't see them outside of the bottom 5 in the conference. I also still think way too many people here underestimate WPG. They a good chance of finishing second in the SE if they can stay healthy and play to their potential.
