pvilleguru 65 Report post Posted October 22, 2011 I haven't been able to watch many of the games yet. Has anyone been able to see any changes our new assistant coaches have made? I know Babcock was looking for some people with new ideas.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted October 22, 2011 I don't know the technical terms, or even if it's impact from the coaches, but the defense is tighter all around and the whole team is less lazy this time around. But all that could just be attributed to players like Hudler and Franzen having off-years all at the same time last year.
cr00d 26 Report post Posted October 22, 2011 Blashill has been running the PP, and showed us a new look on the 5 on 3 yesterday. A 3 man point, with 1 man low and 1 man screening the goalie. Very different.
Opie 308 Report post Posted October 22, 2011 I have noticed that with the new guys on the ice and behind the bench the Wings seem a little more interested in doing new things. They seem to also start games better which was a huge problem last year, the other thing is once they start to dominate only one game (albeit out of 5) did they relinquish control. Granted they were up 5-1 on Ottawa before giving ground. Not sure if it is new staff or the fact that guys want to win one more before # 5 hangs them up. RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted October 22, 2011 I don't know how much the new coaches have impacted the team but according to the standings, so far so good 5 games into the season. New coach, new ideas, new ways of doing things. It's good, gets us out of a predictable rut.
Opie 308 Report post Posted October 22, 2011 Loved the PP design, I can see that working better once the guys get used to it. When Z let that puck go through his legs, the dummy play in soccer, while faking the shot I thought that was going to be a fo' sho' goal!
Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted October 22, 2011 I like that they haven't slept through the first period much this season. *knocks on wood*
Red Wings Addict 787 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 Kronwall's pass through Zetterberg's legs to Lidstrom was pretty sweet. Although the book on Zetterberg's shot the past few years might tell you to let him shoot that.
dobbles 252 Report post Posted October 23, 2011 that new 5 on 3 PP formation is awful. aside from the one time the pass went through to the 3rd guy high, it basically takes a player out of the play. it turns a 5 on 3 into a 4 on 3. when they scored on the 2 man advantage tonight it was only because it was a broken play and that crappy formation had went away. they gotta stop using that pronto. its not a good idea. at all.
