przwoj 2 Report post Posted February 3, 2012 Hello, Can anyone please tell me who was the right winger who once played at a goalie position, due to goalkeepers injury. I can't find information about such a fact anywhere, but I'm pretty sure there was such a situation in Red Wings history. Excouse me if I made any spelling mistakes, English is not my native language, Looking forward to Your reply! Thanks from a Polish Red Wings fan! 2 Cloune and P. egroen 384 Report post Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) Douglas Young once had to play goalie during the '34 season, but he was a defenseman... Is that who you are thinking about? http://www.goaliesarchive.com/wings/young.html Edited February 4, 2012 by egroen
Tim.D 176 Report post Posted February 4, 2012 There was one time Bertuzzi said in an interview he was prepared to play goalie if need be. But he never actually did in a game.
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted February 4, 2012 Maybe Charlie "The Big Bomber" Conacher. According to Total Hockey, he replaced the injured "Tiny" Thompson on February 21, 1939. It was the last of three appearances in goal in his career (the first one replacing a penalized goalie, the other two replacing injured goalies), without allowing a goal in any of the games. Very nice find - and he was a right wing. http://www.goaliesarchive.com/wings/conacher.html Happened a fair amount of time in the 20s and 30s, but not since Brannigan in '41 (for the New York Americans). Conacher played goal for a whole 9 minutes but did not give up a goal.
