#2239870 Datsyuk #1 on TSN's Top-Ten Most Skilled Active Players

Posted by themcityblues on 30 December 2011 - 06:41 PM

What I like about Datsyuk is he's one of THE most elite players in the league who is the most humble, least egotistical, with no drive to flash or impress. Of course, he's flashy and impressive anyway. Isn't this the best combination? He's very humble with mountains of skill. The dude racks up more assists than goals most years. I'm glad he got #1 and very surprised. Guys like Datsyuk, due to their lack of self-attention whoring, can easily be overlooked by guys who do push-ups on the ice after scoring goals. So nice to see this humble player recognized for what he is.

#2228669 Crosby coming back

Posted by Crashnburnluder on 22 November 2011 - 04:58 AM

I will admit it, I Despise Crosby.

Not because he is good at hockey and occasionally beats my favorite team.

Not because he Whines a lot

THIS IS WHY...

I could swear at first look it looks Photoshopped, but it isn't and please take note to my favorite part. The "Top Headlines" section on the right.

"NHLN-US to re-air the Crosby Classic, 1 ET Tuesday"

So this game just became the Crosby Classic, jesus its seriously is just becoming a joke with how much they are trying to shove him down the Casual NHL fans throat. The hardcore fans that have been here through thick and thin are the ones that are starting to get pissed of by it.

#2224819 What's up with Datsyuk

Posted by Reds4Life on 12 November 2011 - 02:42 PM

Right now, I would say that's fairly obvious. As a general statement though, I disagree. Cleary is streaky like Franzen, but he was still second on the team in goals last year. I have said in other threads I would prefer Filppula on Datsyuk's wing -- at least until Cleary gets healthy -- because I do think that is affecting Cleary quite a bit so far.

Cleary has 141 goals in 760 NHL games (100 goals in 431 games as a Red Wing), which makes him a poor goalscorer. He is not a good top6 player. Datsyuk deserves to play with better wingers. Simple as that.

#2217795 I went to school with Abdelkader. Nice guy.

I live like a minute away from Osgood. Saw him taking out the trash once.

I saw that too.

#2214482 No NHL for European fans

Posted by Norwegian Red Wing on 13 October 2011 - 09:57 AM

Im just sad.. Two days before season-opener it was known that ESPN America (the one provider of NHL-games to tv-viewers in Europe) would not send any games this season. NHL was asking too much, it was said..

Then news was updated with ESPNAnot giving up, but still trying to buy the rights from Medge Consulting (owning rights in Europe).

But now it is final...

The following is the latest statement from ESPN America on the NHL TV rights for the UK and Europe:

“Unfortunately, the NHL will not be part of the programming schedule on ESPN and ESPN America in the UK, Ireland or Nordic countries this season.
ESPN spoke to the NHL and their rights holders about continuing a partnership in these regions but we could not reach an agreement that worked for everyone.

We wish the National Hockey League and its new partners all the best while we remain in active discussions with them about coverage in many other parts of Europe.”

..as if this is not enough, NHL GameCenter is not available for us this season either, as far as I can see...

I feel sick.. Just had to let this out.. :(

#2117650 Ode to the Red Wings

Posted by Wingsfan4life19 on 17 February 2011 - 11:30 AM

A friend of mine sent me a text today with a bit of a poem regarding his team, the Flames. In response, I created this poem and figured you folks would enjoy it.

Dear Red Wings,

You hail from the Motor City.
Hockeytown, they say.
And I will always support you,
Through every night and day.

They call you the 'Winged Wheel'.
Because around the ice, you fly.
Following in the footsteps of the legends:
Sawchuk, Howe and the greatest, Stevie Y.

A franchise steeped in history,
To which no team can compare
Nothing like hockey night at the Joe,
When octopi fill the air.

You've led me to the championships
and heartbreaks, well there's been more than one.
But, of all the other teams in this league,
Over you, I'd chose none.

And you may be the greatest,
And you may be the best.
And there's no doubt in my mind,
You're better than the rest.

Yet I must endure a lot,
to be a part of the league's greatest show,
but no matter what happens,
You'll hear me yelling "Go Wings Go!"

But you still bring me sadness,
And you still bring me tears.
Hell, the first round of the playoffs
Is one of my biggest fears.

But I know you still want Stanley
To that goal you'll remain true.
And for that, and other reasons,
I'll unconditionally love you.

#2093693 Trade Time?

Posted by RedFlag85 on 08 January 2011 - 07:07 PM

No trades.

This is the reason we over ripen players. Guys like Kindl, Mursak, and Tatar would already be on active rosters elsewhere. Their job right now is to step up and fill the gap. Something they've been prepared to do.

We have guys like Helm, and Eaves stepping up and fulfilling the roles designated to them. If anything, you guys who go into panic mode and scream, "Trade! Trade! Trade!" illustrate why the Detroit Red Wings are superior to every team in terms of management and preparedness. They don't need to, and don't hit the panic button when the chips are down. They are the pinnacle of professionalism in sports, and a benchmark f how to run any organization.

So in closing to the Doomsayers,

Sit back, relax tonight and watch the game. Then come on LGW and post in the Tatar/Eaves/Helm watch threads about how the Wings have found diamonds in the rough.

If we sign Maltby or Modano I'm going out into the garage to hang myself.

#2000513 Is Filppula going to be our 3rd line center...or 1st line winger?

Posted by SwedeLundin77 on 16 June 2010 - 11:54 PM

It looks like it's going to be either...

Filppula-Datsyuk-Holmstrom
Franzen-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi
Hudler-Helm-Cleary
Miller/*FA-Abdelkader-Eaves
Draper

OR

Hudler-Datsyuk-Holmstrom
Franzen-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi
Abdelkader-Filppula-Cleary
Miller/*FA-Helm-Eaves

...the thing that drives me nuts about both lines (and hence, resigning bertuzzi) is that a very, very talented offensive player - hudler or filppula - will be wasted on a line that has two players with no hands - cleary and helm/abby.

i guess i like the second combination more, but really, i don't like either choice. it's going to take a cap-miracle signing to improve the situation.

If Babcock's quotes about next year are to ring true, Flip will not be on the third line. Bertuzzi will more than likely be a 3rd line winger playing on the second PP. Hence the lines will probably look more like this:

Hudler - Datsyuk - Holmstrom
Filppula - Zetterberg - Franzen
Cleary - Helm - Bertuzzi
Miller - Abdelkader - Eaves
---Draper/Ritola/I. Filppula

You might even see these pairings, Babs mentioned this as well at some point

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom
Hudler - Filppula - Franzen
Cleary - Helm - Bertuzzi
Miller - Abdelkader - Eaves
----Draper/Ritola/I. Filppula

I think either way would be fine, if the second pairing of Huds, Flip, and Franzen get it done, and surely they're capable of doing so, why not put the super first line back up there and let the Euro-twins work their magic like a few years back. I think that would be the best. Cleary and Bertuzzi could play up too in case someone isn't pulling their weight at even strength - talking about Holmer....

I almost wish they'd trade Draper, but it would be nice to have that veteran savvy on the back side of the offense. I am really pulling for I. Filppula, but I just think it would be cool to have brothers on the team. He looks like he could pan out, but I know i'm probably just dreaming. Who knows, maybe Eaves walks for more money, you never know.

Ritola may be traded since we already have Draper as a reserve and he's not longer able to be freely waived down to GR.

How about neither?

2nd Line Center.

#1998705 Skating through the center of the ice?

I just miss the plays between Hank and Pavs that broke the logic behind hockey ate it up, and spit it out again after they scored.
