By that argument American colonial history is actually British history.

He does act rather self-entitled about it but Canada DID invent hockey...

Who, exactly, was our enforcer in 08? McCarty was little more than a nostalgic guest cameo, and even if he wasn't I don't think anybody playing against the Wings were exactly quaking in their skates at the prospect of getting into a fight with him. I don't really get the point of an enforcer in the first place, honestly. Why would fighting make someone think twice about cheap-shotting one of our top-six guys but not getting decked against the boards by Kronwall? Either way you make the guy hurt and someone like Kron is a lot more useful in other areas of the game.

Their 20th straight home win - a historic hockey event - was top billing on TSN when they tied the record. A number of their recent wins leading up to that 20th have also made top headlines. Everybody who knows hockey was already aware of the implications of the game, and you can only write about the streak so many times before you start just recycling the same thing over and over. People ***** and moan about the hockey media constantly reporting on Crosby's concussion despite a lack of new material to write upon yet are up in arms about this? You guys really need to get the collective stick out of your ass and find SOMEthing else to do with yourselves other than whine. The history books will hold up a lot longer than TSN's headlines, trust me.

To play Devil's Advocate, Calgary has some of the most unreliable winter weather you can possibly experience. I was there over christmas and all December the temperature was about 10-12 degrees Celcius (The same thing happened during the 88 Olympics, actually). A few weeks ago it plummeted down to -30. They lucked out weather-wise for the Heritage Classic a few years ago but clearly the very plausible risk of chinook-induced warm weather on the ice surface was not significant enough for them to consider hosting it somewhere else. Precipitation seems to be a more detrimental element then just temperature - as the extremely poor ice quality on Heinz Field attests to. <br>

Ditto, he's probably better off getting a break It's still pretty ridiculous that he wasn't even a nominee, though

There's two eight-team conferences and two seven-team conferences. I believe the prospective plans have Phoenix in one of the larger conferences, in which case it'd just be a matter of it shifting to the smaller Eastern conference.

Suddenly everything fits into place. I've lived in a slew of places in North America and Europe, I have never encountered a place where moaning and complaining about EVERYthing is so thoroughly engrained into civic identity as Halifax.

Kansas City is all but dead as a potential relocation spot. Sprint Center is much too profitable as-is without a host team eating up 40-odd nights a year. Not dissimilar to ASG wanting the Thrashers out of Philips.

T-Ruff reacted to a post in a topic: Winnipeg Jets' New Logo

The traditional Royal Canadian Air Force emblem is a blue roundel with a maple leaf and Winnipeg has had a strong association with the RCAF, so in the case of the Jets there's actually a legitimate reason for having it beyond 'it looks old-timey'. Speaking of which, if the uniforms have a vintage-military-hockey-club feel to them it could actually look pretty damn good.
-
Why does everybody have such a boner for the original Sabres logo? It's awful. It'd be like if the winged wheel was a wheel set above a set of wings floating around in a blank void haphazardly slapped together in a circle. Also, the Jets' new logo looks a bit CHL-ey, but it's by no means among the worst in the league. I think the wordmark of all things looks pretty sharp, actually.

Wow, if Nashville keeps playing like that this series is going to be a breeze for the Canucks. Rinne was the only guy on the whole team who was even trying. Well he only had to make like 20 saves and none of them were particularly epic. Rinne outplayed Lu by far in that game.

Um, you seriously think this vague 'anyone' knew who Chris Pronger or Zdeno Chara are last year's WC? If we're going by your logic it'd be Pittsburgh v. Washington every Winter Classic because frankly Crosby and Ovechkin are the *only* players in the League who have anything close to the kind of universal recognizably you apparently demand from the WC. Aww, you mad? Guess what, whining about whining is still whining.
