I know they have a Plan A,B,C, and D but if they have to go to even a plan C then I'll be worried. They were very underwhelming last year at the open of free agency and the fact that they didn't do anything big during the trade deadline was even more discouraging.
Dream scenario(without trades) would be to sign Suter, Parise, and Kuba because Kuba and Suter are shot blocking machines which is what Howard needs.

And he is the one that accepted the Campbell Bowl on Lidstrom's behalf when he was injured in 09. Its clear who second in command was.
What if they were to offer the C to Zach Parise if he becomes a wing? Think that would offend anyone?

I think its overly optimistic to think they will get both. I would rather Parise.
I was listening to XM Radio this morning and I forget the guy's name but I know he is the color commentator for the New Jersey Devils. He was asked about Parise's future with the Devils and what the chances of him coming back now that they are in the Finals. He said he doesn't think it's going to matter either way. The chances were 60% that he would not be back. Only because of the financial situation that the Devils are in. In fact he said most of the players have commented that this will likely be the only time they will ever get this opportunity as a New Jersey Devil. A little depressing but one team's loss is another team's gain.
I lost all hope he would become a Red Wing until I heard that from one of there own.
It would be great to have him as a Wing!!!

If that happens, expect Parise to get 8 to almost 9 million a season and Suter to get around 8 million. Who knows though.

#2297531 What's Kenny Holland's Offseason Plan?

FWIW, Pav said the same thing in one of his interviews with the Russian writer who works for Puck Daddy. On some level it does make sense since they're such good friends and they've played together for so long.
I'd actually be curious to see how many goals they've combined for where Lidstrom was the primary assist maker. Chances are that goal was probably Lidstrom shooting the puck intentionally wide so that Homer could stick his **** out to deflect it. Yeah I said it.
Holmstrom should be gone. We need 3 additional impact players to make a difference and bringing back players that are old and busted is not worth the money we pay to watch this team play. Lidstrom is the only UFA player I would bring back and it should be a discounted price since he is 42 years old and much more prone to injury.
The wings are loyal and I can appreciate that but there has to be a time where you have to let guys go. It's like having a new car that is great when you first get it and gives you years of service but if it keeps breaking down then it's time for a new car.
Holmstrom is like an old car that you love even though it leaks oil and starts only half the time.

#2262328 2012 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - February 27th, 3:00 PM ET

Ya, I mentioned this earlier saying now Hudler is gonna ask for at least $5M. I think Holland will just let him go over the summer. No one will want a pending UFA in trade, so he won't be traded at the deadline. I certainly hope and pray that Holland doesn't give him anything above $3.25M.
If I were Holland I would let him walk or trade him atleast. If we have any shot at Parise and/or Suter we are gonna have to part with some players in order to make it happen and Lidstrom if he comes back is gonna have to take a pay cut. I think its about time he does so anyway given the fact that he is over 40 years old. Sure we have him at a discount but I would say to his benefit he has had the chance to play for an owner that would never trade him and has paid him 11 million per year at one point. These players mak too much anyways but if we expect to get players of this caliber we have to be prepared to pony up the cash. This is what I hate about the salary floor. Teams that have no business spending that much money are giving players inflated contracts just to meet the criteria. Doesn't that screw with the pay scale for everyone else? The other thing I hate as well is players like Brian Campbell can be unloaded and thus helping teams that pay stupid contracts get out from underneath them.
Sorry for getting off topic, just felt like venting.

#2179209 Brian Rafalski announces retirement after 11 NHL seasons
Posted by Diluvian04
on 24 May 2011 - 07:06 PM
I would guess that if Phoenix is in trouble financially and possibly moving then the possibility of getting someone like Yandle would be something that Holland could look into.
Yandle is obviously a RFA though so I understand the odds of getting him.
Two guys worth looking into are Bieksa and Ehrhoff but everyone needs to understand that these guys aren't gonna sign for the same amount or even alittle more than what they are currently making. I would not at all be surprised if one or both of these players look at 5.5 per year or more just because of the current crop of defensemen free agents.
My choice would be two of these three guys, however I wouldn't expect to sign a top flight forward as replacing Rafalski is gonna be more expensive then people think.
