I don't know what you are referring to where I called someone else out, but I don't disagree with you entirely. Still, Q has done a nice job balancing his four lines and getting his best players on the ice. That may sound too simplistic, but sometimes coaches get too caught up in matching lines and overthink situations. I think Babcock was very guilty of that in Detroit at times.
Q has a ton of talent to work with, no question. So did Scotty Bowman in Detroit. You still have to execute and game plan. Three cups in six seasons isn't easy to pull off even with a stacked roster.
Oh, sorry, GoWings... I quoted part of your post just the coaching part that I had different opinion on. The other parts were just referring to others in the thread.
Chicago is abuzz, and rightfully so, today. But, their lack of humility on the radio and from fans is a bit sickening. They pretty much think its going to end tonight. Talking about how they haven't clinched the cup on home ice since like the 1940's. They think the script is going just as they planned, typical lackadaisical Hawks pitter-pattering early in series and then buckling down in the meaningful games.
Would just love for them to get knocked down a a peg or two (the fans and radio, not the players, they are calm and respectful as usual, damn Captain Serious and doing everything right ).
I thought the no jerseys thing was blown out of proportion and that TB media guy's article seems to back it up that its only a few sections.
The media jumped on the nazi like rules in those sections and to get traffic made bold claims that it was the whole arena.
I feel the Army Captain story is separate issue and a bad PR/Customer Service nightmare (that they fixed or backtracked on) and the only reason it became even worse of a story was because of the attention the no jersey thing was getting... if that wasn't going on, it would have been a small blurb story (and maybe it gets fixed with less attention, maybe not...)
I don't want to fight with any more of my Wing's peeps about stupid crap in other cities. I am probably wrong about everything and only through the internet can I throw out my stupid opinions onto a message board.
People need to drop this. It's obviously only box seats or whatever and there are still plenty of Hawks jerseys in the stands so its ignored or worked around.
Hawks like to pretend they are the downtrodden underdogs and them against the world even when they are top team in league and favored to win. Their manufacturing of angst is getting about as old and ridiculous as Chelsea Dagger.
Not sure people realize we had top PP for most of year and only dropped to 2nd at end of season when wings were slumping. Hiller will be a big loss.
I know people are trying to act all tough but losing known entities for unknown people (unknown how their coaching will transfer to NHL) scares the s*** out of me. Not denying there is some excitement too but still scary.
Anyone who doubts what Babs brings to the team... all Squawk Sports Radio talks about is how Quenneville is the master of matchups and OCD about it.
I will give you one guess where he learned to take it so seriously (it was in 2013). And he was schooled by the master and should have had one of the biggest disappointment playoff exits in recent times had his team not luckily come back from 3 - 1 series deficit.
I just have serious doubts that the next coach up can match the same. I know we backseat drive his game strategy all the time, but there is a reason for things he does and its not just pulling names out of a hat and it works out a lot more often than it fails. Just look again at this year... we should have easily surprised and beat the s*** out of the Blots.
One thing I noticed in thread. Now, I like Blashill and I hate to rag on the Calder cup, because that's all we have had to root for the last couple years. But, to even put the Calder cup in the same conversation as NHL championships, is a bit ridiculous to try and compare Blash to Babcocks resume.
And to say that Babcock had a stacked roster when he had success and in the same breath say that Blashill is competing every year in Calder cup and not comment how Grand Rapids is filled with overripe NHL prospects (that we regularly leave in the minors too long) and then a bunch of ringers (NHL level players) get sent back down after we are knocked out of playoffs, is a bit disingenuous.
Also, my last comment about if a replacement is needed. How often is the minor league affiliates head coach looked at before any bench or assistant coaches? (yes he was an asst one year... but not currently).
