#2362535 2/27 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Kings 2

Pretty sure my interest in hockey, after 30 years, has just died. Peace.

Ed Olczyk, Keith Jones and Mike Milbury make Idiocracy seem less like a comedy and more like a documentary.

#2361863 Hudler/Brunner

Posted by shoobiedoobin on 27 February 2013 - 10:32 AM

Just saw a comment from him over at HFboards yesterday and had a good belly laugh reading everyone else commenting on his irrational love of Hudler over there as well.  Some things clearly never change.

For a real good laugh go read pretty much anything posted in the general hockey discussion area. I've seen some of the stupidest comments in my entire hockey following life posted there.

And Brunner isn't a liability on defense. A liability is someone like Patrick Kane who sees the puck in his own end, the other team possessing it in good position, and decides to just skate away from Pavel Datsyuk for a hypothetical breakout pass. Or Ilya Kovalchuk when he would just do figure eights by the blue line/neutral zone looking for a pass for a breakaway or odd man rush. Brunner backchecks and actually tries. He's not making the best reads compared to the rest of our team (still by far the best group of defensive forwards in the game) but he's back there trying and I've seen a few good plays from him.

#2361639 Gus Nyquist...

Posted by shoobiedoobin on 26 February 2013 - 04:26 PM

I think part of it is that this fanbase wants to see more young top talent. Tatar is definitely a start.

The Wings' fanbase wants to see a Jordan Eberle, or a Sean Couturier, etc.

We want to see impactful young guys. Obviously they aren't a dime-a-dozen, but we WANT!

What does that make Zetterberg?

The beard.

Nyquist should be playing on Pavel's wing.  If he can't fit into that role on the top 6, then we should trade him for a bag of beans.

Just because he can now? Screw the future let's shoehorn him in now! Typical short sighted fan demands-bring up our new toy now! Now now now!

#2361335 Red Wings to be in an Eastern conference in latest NHL/NHLPA proposal

Posted by shoobiedoobin on 25 February 2013 - 09:37 PM

By my rough estimation...the 2 eastern divisions will have a 56% chance of making the playoffs with a wild-card, while the 2 western divisions will have a 57%.

Also, you're forgetting that they're throwing out conferences now.

To me the league would be nuts to use a wildcard playoff format. Stick to 16 teams. Top 4 teams from each division make it in. Then there's no advantage or disadvantage to having one more team in your division since 4 make it in across the board from each. 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3 in each division. Winners play each other in round 2. 4 remaining division winners play each other with whatever seeding. Winners face off in the finals.

The Cup is the toughest championship to win and a big reason is the fact you have to go through 4 rounds of 4-7 games. It's grueling and that's what makes it worth it. That's mostly what gives it it's credibility and status. To try and emulate an NFL style wildcard system would easily cheapen the title. There's nothing in sports like playoff hockey. DO NOT CHANGE THAT.

Yeah, if solid means being average and not screwing up as much while having no physical presence.

^Yeah cause 19th overall defensemen who have good NHL experience usually get sent packing for nothing. Like I said before we undervalue him but our narrow mindedness keeps us from realizing we're just a few guys on forums, the hockey world doesn't agree.

^To be fair Feaster is a bit of an idiot. That said Mac is a very good goalie. But he wanted to be in the NHL permanently, was hurt a lot, and we found a similar guy with a higher upside for very little money. Contrary to our silly belief that one team has to suffer in a scenario like this, neither are right now. CGY got themselves a fine goalie, and we got a great backup and also have an insane AHL goalie who can come up anytime.

Kenny might die from shock if somebody offered a 3rd for him. If Kindl wants to know what his future is in Detroit, all he probably needs to do is call Jan Murask.

Good thing the rest of the hockey world doesn't think of Kindl this way. There's a world of difference between the two. Mursak was a 6th round pick. Kindl was 19th overall. Mursak really showed nothing in the NHL. Kindl minus our huge expectations has shown he can play in this league and do well from time to time. He's in a position that is tougher to come across, with a higher upside. And he's not going back to the AHL. If he's not playing for the Wings, he's playing for another NHL team. He's got trade value no matter how much we rag on him. There will be a GM or two out there willing to take a chance on a former first round pick on defense who looks like he just needs a change of scenary. Worse guys have gotten something in return.

#2361045 2/24 GDT : Canucks 3 at Red Wings 8

I love reading the butthurt on Vancouver's forum.

The best part was so many fans accusing Bettman of having a Crosby-esque love affair with the Wings.

Funny considering 2 of their 3 goals were a direct result of blatant interference. That little pick play behind the net is something they've done and gotten away with for about 4 years now. This league is full of stuff like this-allowing certain teams or players to bend the rules while no one else can. Pronger could cross check anyone he wanted, Pittsburgh can clutch and hold with no calls, SJ dives like they're going for gold, The Sedins can run pick plays and no one calls it because it's just their thing.

Nashville should consider themselves lucky to walk out of there with even a point nevermind 2. Nice to see that redneck chant is still around. Idiots.

#2356738 Howard = Average

Posted by shoobiedoobin on 17 February 2013 - 01:23 PM

Axe, just stop. You look fanatical. See what I mean about this becoming a contest? You're spinning any possible thing into a negative against Howard and pitifully attempting to downplay anything in his favor. Everyone can clearly see you have no clue what you're talking about.

You're a politician. And if I was a mod I'd delete my own post, because that to me is a hell of an insult.
