#2297988 Where does Bertuzzi fit?

Posted by sureWhyNot on 29 April 2012 - 02:48 PM

If the wings pick up a primary top 6 goal scorer and we get more depth where does Bertuzzi fit? On which line does Bertuzzi play assuming Holland picks up all the players you would like to be signed to this team. Is he a good enough 3rd liner on a Stanley Cup winning team... I think a 4th line of Abdelkader-Helm-Eaves would be the perfect 4th line for a stanley cup run... no team could match up against it... Assuming they fall down the depth chart because of signings... but where does Bertuzzi fit in the grand scheme of things? My dream 3rd line would be big, strong, physical with a little scoring touch so we would have different looks on every line... I don't see how Bertuzzi can play on this team if we want to be a strong contender

Dude, get a clue - I am so sick of ppl chirping Bertuzzi. Is he going to put up 60-70 points next year? No, probably not. *But he was tied for 1st on the Wings amd tied for 9th in the NHL this year with a +23 - and that was against the oppositions top lines as he played the majority of the season on the top unit with Franzen and Datsyuk.*

So yeah - I am actually very happy with a guy putting up 40-45 points a year, is incredibly defensibly reliable, is a shootout wizard (tied for 2nd overall in the league with 4 shootout game winners) and is one of the very, very few physical, gritty guys on an obnoxiously soft roster sticking around for another couple years. Especially when his price tag is only 1.8 million a year.

Point your finger at someone besides Bertuzzi. The guy is incredibly valuable anywhere you put him.

#2297591 Johan Franzen wants to 'have more fun'

Posted by Doc Holliday on 27 April 2012 - 01:01 PM

So now Franzen has had three amazing postseasons and four mediocre to bad ones.

In the next season or two we'll know for sure if he really has a beast mode for the playoffs or if those few years were an aberration and now he's gone back to his normal level.

Franzen was a third liner who was just coming into the league in his first two years. Not sure why you mention those.

Also, from that same article:

“I don't think we scored even-strength at all (four five-on-five goals in the series),'' Babcock said. “I don't think you want to point at the Mule. I think you want to point at all of us.''

The coach who was brutally honest about what he wants out of Ken Holland now decides to defend Franzen? Let's be honest here. Franzen is an easy scapegoat (how can you not be when your quotes are changed up purposefully to bring a more negative story?) when the entire team was flat, unprepared, and outmatched by a better opponent.

Robert Lang wasn't granted an 11-year contract. (that's good...)
Robert Lang didn't complain to the media every time he spoke to them about things being boring. (what self-respecting player would?)

He isn't complaining to the media here. He is pointing out a reasonable fact regarding the team. They were slow, unmotivated, and didn't seem to have much faith in themselves.

Also, Lang's last year with Detroit saw him not even score 20 goals. Yay.

#2266161 Standings sans Loser Point

Posted by T.Low on 03 March 2012 - 05:31 PM

In my opinion, people who spend their time whining and complaining about rules that probably will not be changed in our lifetime, are morons. Just my 2 cents.

Glad John Hancock didn't share your philosophy.

I'd actually like to take it a step further. The game is 60 minutes for 2pts. Now, if it can't be won in the regulation 60 monutes, the value of the game goes down to 1pt. If it takes you OT or a shootout to win the game, you only get 1 pt and the loser gets 0.

I would prefer Emmerton, but then we are lacking at center...

The Wings are kind of lacking at center with Emmerton as well.

#2258383 Sharks May overcome your streak. Otherwise it would be a great game.

"Sharks May overcome your streak. Otherwise it would be a great game."

As a fellow shark, and hockey fan, I'd like to bid you a good luck to your next game. All I know is that your streak must end. It will eventually, I do not know if it would be by the sharks, but regardless, I shall take pleasure in it. Regardless of what team, you guys are setting yourselves for a great sigh. A long one.

Anyhow, win or lose, It'll be a hell of a game to watch.

BUT....

If the sharks break your famous NHL record of yours.... oh lord, your will never heard the end of the sharkie fans.... lol.

With regards, and with great anticipation of tmw's game,

Is it just me, or does the style of writing here remind anyone else of those emails that you'll get randomly from someone in 'another country' giving you a 'lucrative' offer?

Something like - 'if only you would give them you bank account information, they would send this sum of money to you so you can help them out of their terrible situation and THEN, of course, you get to keep some of the money...'

Anyway, it is entirely possible that the Sharks will win. Either way, though, if anyone is laughing at the Red Wings... they need to take a closer look at the standings and then promptly shut their mouths.

#2246931 Fight During Postgame Handshake

That's just embarrassing, I don't care what one said to the other to spark it if that was even the case. The game is over, this was unnecessary, i'd expect to see this in the NFL but not in hockey.

#2230313 Patrick Eaves injury

Posted by wingfan1991 on 26 November 2011 - 11:26 PM

How this guy doesn't play every game especially over emmerton is beyond me. Emmerton is invisible, does nothing with his minutes. Eaves shoots and can kill penalties... And compliments Helm most of all better than anyone. I liked Cleary with them solid line.

#2226339 Online movement to get Eaves on the PP

Posted by eva unit zero on 17 November 2011 - 12:51 AM

I like Eaves, and I want to see him succeed...

But this feels more like a "He's not Hudler!" than a "Patty can do it!" kind of thing.

Eaves has a good shot and is a good skater, but he's a mediocre passer. His entire purpose would be to blast shots from the point. Think Jason Williams, but better defensively and without the passing skill.

That's why Eaves isn't on the PP.

Samuelsson was on the PP because he has a good shot, is a decent passer, and could play defensively. He wasn't a one-tool guy in that situation like Eaves would be.

Hudler is fine on the PP. He actually looked better working with Lidstrom than he ever has with Kronwall. He was the team's best player in the failed 5-minute PP against St. Louis and he regularly creates chances.

I think Lidstrom/Hudler and Kronwall/Kindl make for solid PP pairings. I'd rather see Hudler up front but Babcock has his template, and his template doesn't have room for a shifty little guy who's in the league based on skill and hard work, not physical gifts.
