hm...Jussi Jokinen,$9M/3years,top 6 forward/30 goals scorer
It's crazy, Holmstrom is not a top six forward any longer. He's still good as a power play specialist. But he should not be a top six forward. There is definitely room for a quality top six forward on this team. And in my opinion there is not only room for one, but there is a NEED for one. Ken Holland has to address this. And if he doesn't he is making a huge mistake!

Just reading that makes me feel abit better.
Red Wings explored, but mostly stood pat
In addition to signing defenseman Mike Commodore to a one-year, $1 million deal, Holland made a pitch to sign a couple of other players, but the price wasn’t right.
"Part of it was money, part was opportunity," Holland said. "(Forwards) look at our lineup and don’t want to come here if they can’t be a top-six forward, and we don’t want to pay them (top-six money) if they’re bottom six."
WHY??? Why can't he assure a top six forward that he will have a top six spot on the team? Holmstrom(power play specialist) God love em but seriously, he's past it! And he no longer deserves a top six role on this team. Why the hell can't Kenny tell a free agent, hey if you sign with us, we'll move Homer or Bert to a 3rd line, and you'll fit right in on our 1st or 2nd line. WTF? I just don't understand where he is coming from with this bullsh!t.

Also hearing the Wings offered a multi-year $2M+ contract to Ville Lieno.
Is Holland trying to drive Babcock off a cliff?

does any one else find it annoying that teams are able to bail themselves out of terrible contracts by sending players to the minors? Chicago doing with Huet last summer, the Oilers doing it with Souray, the Rangers doing it with Wade Redden. In my opinion, these teams should have to deal with the stupidity they bring upon themselves. Its an absolute cop out and they humiliate these players in the process by sending them to the minors. I hope the next CBA corrects this.
Things like that may hurt them during Free Agency, Players see how they treated Huet. That may turn some players and agents off.

Agreed. The only problem I see with this line of reasoning, there can be some who refuse to let sleeping dogs lie.
He could be a problem if he is in everyone face about religion non-stop. I doubt that would fly in a locker room on any team though. If a Lidstrom tells you to tone that down, you don't think it would?
I don't really know the kid or what he says or does in a locker room setting. If he backs up his talk with his play maybe he could inspire a team and carry them like a Tim Tebow. I'm not saying I want the Wings to take him, but if Rafalski fit in the locker room why couldn't he?

do not want rocco grimaldi at all!!!! anyone see his interview on tsn? they were talking about how he is all religious and rocco said something about guys on the team who do things that are "wrong" the quickly corrected himself by saying guys who do things he "doesn't agree with" in regards to drinking alcohol and such.... sounds like he would be a cancer in the locker room.
Or it sounds like he's a player you won't have to worry about getting a DUI. Some religious folks wear it on their sleeve and some don't. But on this side of the world North/Central/South America the majority of athletes are religious. And if you can't tolerate that well maybe you should follow athletes and teams from different parts of the world.

kenny wanted biggs but as soon as burke traded for that pick kenny knew he was taking him. then kenny got on the phone immediately and traded the pick away for the two 2nd rounders. thats my theory anyways.
Here's my theory, Holland knows all the smallish undersized soft non-physical players they are targeting will still be there in the 2nd round.

What a bunch of pampered babies in this thread.

I like how Holland has been voted the best GM of the last decade (and more), but he can do no right by alot on here.
Good for him, but this is a yearly results oriented business and you are judged by what you do in the NOW. Not what you did in 2002 or 2008. It's 2011, you've been eliminated from the playoffs two years in a row by the same team. What are you doing NOW to get better for NOW and Tomorrow? What are you doing to get better than that team WHo knocked you out of the playoffs two years in a row. Oh Look they're making moves to get even better. Why aren't you?
