#2493150 Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

Posted by Carman on 08 March 2014 - 11:34 AM

Feels kinda crappy to be hoping for a young kids career to be mediocre but I find myself doing it. LGW would be unbearable if he started lighting it up in the NHL

Nah, I hope he does well. Even if he becomes an all-star, it would still be a trade that needed to be done at the time. Legwand's importance to the team right now, was more than Jarnkrok's importance to our future, obviously our front office thinks that we have enough young talent(which I think we do, Nyquist/Tatar/Jurco/Sheahan/Pulkinnen/Mantha all look like they will be impact NHLers) that we could let go a promising prospect for a very good player right now. It's quite an achievement to become a point producing/defensive center like Legwand is, even if Jarnkrok becomes one, I'm confident we made the right move because we needed that kind of player now.

MacDonald was great last year.

MacDonald had two good games last year, and was mediocre in the rest. He's a career third-stringer.

The person below me has a better chance of getting laid while they play World of Warcraft in their Mom's basement 30 years from now.

#2005041 Savard to waive no trade clause

Posted by Drake_Marcus on 25 June 2010 - 11:58 PM

Bottom line is Savard is a better play then clearly.

And Brodeur is a better player than Savard. What's your point? Savard has about as much capacity to play a checking, PK role as he does a goaltending role.

#1971735 WCSF Game 2 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Sharks 4

Posted by Detroit # 1 Fan on 02 May 2010 - 10:11 PM

Yes the refs affected the outcome, but the Wings need to forget these 2 games. Get back to playing and not worrying about calls, 5on5, we're betterr.

#1962129 Nicknames

Posted by BiscuitBoss on 27 April 2010 - 08:19 PM

I was reading some articles and it came to me. How about Jimmy "the lip", or Jimmy "Swiss Cheese" Howard? In these days of a weaker team we need a goalie that can carry us, not a wet behind the ears braggart. -update- ....sometimes it is painful to hear truth. My problem was with Howard running his mouth in the papers, while we have a Hall Of Famer on the bench. It is my feeling that a young player or any player should be humble and not give the other team ammo. See walter smith and terry glenn.

#1949708 Ozzy for game 4?

Posted by Carman on 18 April 2010 - 05:01 PM

Not a chance.

Sorry the Wings aren't a s***ty ran team like Washington that just changes goalies day to day.

Jimmy needs to prove himself, and the Wings actually need to come to play in front of him.

#1929321 Hudler done with dynamo

Posted by Drake_Marcus on 31 March 2010 - 03:13 PM

Man, the guys who don't want Hudler back are right. If there's one thing the Wings don't need this year it's a guy who can put 60+ points up and make the 2nd PP more dangerous.

Let's bring Williams back then!

#1917447 What to do with Osgood next Year?

Posted by clutchngrab on 16 March 2010 - 09:47 PM

Same situation with Osgood as with Draper. That's 3 million bucks between the two of them that will be wasted for next year. It's shame but we have to wait an extra year to make that money useful.

In the cap era it is a shame. It would be nice to hold onto players past their usefulness for all the sentimentalists on LGW.

#1917221 What to do with Osgood next Year?

Posted by Doc Holliday on 16 March 2010 - 01:27 PM

1. Osgood is not frustrated. He has been a great mentor to Howard and the team has been taking note.

2. Osgood commented on the fact that both him and Howard didn't have a chance to start for a good month (Howard in November, Osgood in February) and it seems like that has been dealt with fine

3. Osgood will get more playing time next year because the team will most likely be healthy the majority of the year and wins won't be as hard to get as this year. Considering the team is 7-2 since the Olympic break (with Howard not playing like he did in February) I think they will be in good shape next year.

4. Howard still needs a mentor to get him through his sophomore year so he doesn't become the next Steve Mason or Dan Ellis. Plus he is a clutch playoff goaltender, and if Howard does bad this post-season or next Osgood would be the best backup available.

In short, he stays.

#1917393 What to do with Osgood next Year?

Posted by mackel on 16 March 2010 - 07:12 PM

I think the savings from a lateral move with regard to the back goalie position would be a good thing. At this stage Osgood is purely a back up and a backup of equal ability can be inked for 500K less a year. That's 500K toward a resigned or new FA.

#1915810 New All Star Game format

Posted by Howard He Do It?! on 14 March 2010 - 04:01 PM

Get rid of the all-star game and just name all-star teams. Everybody gets a nice little award.

#1912972 Bring up Helm

Posted by SouthernWingsFan on 10 March 2010 - 08:08 AM

Why not try Helm on the second line and see if he can give some much needed energy to Z and Cleary.

Jake Ryan, is that you?! :D

Hehe, there was a member on here was that was all he did, either wanted Helm to always be on the top line or just ripping on Tomas Holmstrom. Just about every post of his was one or the other.

But I digress, just giving you friendly grief.

It's getting around that time to trying different stuff out I think, if the Wings go on any extended losing streak I think their goose is cooked in terms of making the playoffs.

Helm has shown scoring touch at some points but is maddingly incosistent when it comes to scoring goals, and for now he's not here to score 10 goals a game or play on top two lines. It could be a viable option, but I think there are other things you can do before doing this like reuniting Datstyuk-Zetterberg, or perhaps Bertuzzi-Datsyuk-Holmstrom as that line had some success when there were a ridiculous amount of injuries, etc.
