esteef 2,679 Report post Posted March 15, 2008 Simon had 8 career suspensions. Pronger has 7. Please explain how this makes them different. The title of this thread is Pronger at it again. Check the first couple of pages in this thread, you can see Pronger's rap sheet there. It's not short. The TSN video anchor talks about how dirty Pronger is before even showing the clip. Anything less than 30 games means the NHL is playing favoritism and there's really no argument around that. He has the history. It was clearly intent to harm. He has been suspended before and it hasn't taught him a lesson. An example needs to be made right here and right now that says No player in the NHL, no matter who, what salary they make, how many points they have, what team they play for, captain or not, no matter what will be suspended by the NHL for this kind of play. But you forgot "playoffs or not"!!
russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted March 15, 2008 Only reason I mentioned history is due to the fact that Simon had pretty much just returned from his tomahawk chop suspension...If Pronger got 30 I would feel it 100% justified...BUT I'm not expecting it and would be satisfied with 15 games... TheHoff 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2008 If he gets 5 -10 games I'd be surprized because like everyone's mentioned he's Chris Pronger. He should get 30 like Simon, but I think they re-opened the case after a better video angle was found from somewhere. Plus the fact that he's a repeat offender going on 6 or 7 suspensions. Already media guys are defending Pronger, so that's going to help his case imo, but I hope he's gone for 20 -30 games which I know will not happen given his star status with the league. Its always interesting to hear guys like Cherry say that Pronger's better than Lidstrom because of his physical play, but with these constant suspensions and bad judgement on Pronger's part it just shows how wrong Cherry is and Nick is leagues ahead of Pronger even without the physical play. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted March 15, 2008 I would be satisfied with 15. He needs to miss a round of the playoffs. Its only fair. I think Chris Simon's statements will actually help with a Pronger suspension. He basically called them out on having a double-standard and theres really no way you can argue with his comments. Hes spot on. And it makes the NHL look reallllly bad. At least the NHL can still cover their asses by saying they couldnt tell with the crappy video they had, but now that they see the replay with better video, theyre able to make a better judgement. Its a great excuse for them..
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted March 15, 2008 Hmm, I wake up and there's no news yet. I don't know if that's good or bad. Naturally it takes a long time to cover up and make excuses for the horrible judgement call in the first place, and then to also come up with an explanation as to why Prongers only going to miss 2 games as opposed to Simon's 30. seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted March 15, 2008 I didn't read the whole thread, but he waived his right to an in-person hearing. Those usually mean at least 5 games, so I doubt he only gets 1-2.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted March 15, 2008 http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=232096&hubname=nhl Only 8 games. Ridiculous. Campbell gives him a nice rest for the playoffs with the appearance that Pronger's actually being disciplined.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted March 15, 2008 (edited) Not living in a hockey town anymore, I have a lot of friends who don't know much about the game. So I'll try and tell them how great the sport is, and explain how fighting fits in and everything. But basically I feel like i'm trying to explain Pro Wrestling as a legit sport when they ask me how a guy can get elbowed in the head, knocked unconscious, and the player that did it only gets three games of an 82 game season. Or a player stomps on a guy with basically a razor blade strapped to his foot, and he gets only 8 games, where in any other league it would've been a massive suspension. Edit: it just reinforces the outside perspective that hockey is a brutal bloodsport played mostly by goons. Edited March 15, 2008 by haroldsnepsts
Nev 1,085 Report post Posted March 15, 2008 I want to say "un-believable", but that would be a lie. We have 18 pages here of how the NHL would bottle it and not give him the Chris Simon suspension he so clearly deserves. What more is there to say? I so hope we avoid the ducks in the playoffs, they're tough enough to beat as it is, without the refs and the NHL helping them out

Well said, this being another example of how poorly nhl commissioners are at promoting the sport.

DeuxEx 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2008 I can't say I expected them to give him a large suspension but it doesn't mean it's ok. If I hadn't grown up a Red Wings fan I can't imagine why I would be attracted by this league.

Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted March 16, 2008 In no way am I happy about the 8 games. It should have been 30+. However Anaheim hasn't locked up a playoff spot yet. They have 9 games left and 8 of them will be without their golden boy! We all know they are a different team without him. They have Phoenix breathing right down there backs.
