I was thinking the same thing just a few days ago but now it doesn't seem like such a bad idea. The Flames paid through the nose for a guy who's offensive game never came around in Calgary but he can play a ton of minutes and he does move the puck well. His contract is up after next season so we'd only be stuck with that contract for 2 seasons. I have little doubt that he would cost a whole lot less to acquire than Yandle since I believe that Calgary currently has one of the highest payrolls in the league for a team that isn't very good. I don't believe he would cost us either Smith or Nyquist while either one of those guys would go gone with a trade for Yandle. -

Has there ever been an UFA who's rights have been traded that didn't immediately sign with that team? I can't think of any which makes me nervous to hear about anyone trying to acquire Parise or Suter's rights. I am aware that Poile said he would not trade Suter's rights but you never know.

If we miss out on Messi then Robin van Persie would be my second choice. Or if we want a Swede to mesh we can try for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. I hesitate to even mention Crosby in the same sentence as Steve Yzerman but that sounds like something Stevie would have done. Oh yeah, he did.

I can't help but think of what would have happened when Weber face planted Z into the glass and Doan were a Wing. Do you think he would have sat back and did nothing like the rest of the team did?? No, he's a type of guy who would go ballistic and not stand for that crap. Wings need someone like that but I hold little faith that he would come here. Dirty player? How often do we overlook Kronwall when he leaves his skates for one of those devastating hits that we all like. Was McCarty an angel for pummeling Lemeiux who did not even show any willingness to fight back? I'd say that was pretty dirty but we LOVED him for it. Vladimir Konstantinov was notorious for getting away with little dirty cheap shots and the guy was a fan favorite for his tenacity and no fear attitude. Give me a couple of guys like Doan and the Cup will be ours.

Not if they trade Paul Martin and his $5 million contract which they are trying to do. That will give them more money than the Wings. I don't like it at all but Pittsburgh may be a more desirable place to play given the age of their key players.

Do you happen to remember Datsyuk's first 3 or 4 years in the playoffs? Dreadful. Kinda turned out ok, don't you think? You are really condemning Hossa for 1 year? Seemed to play pretty damn good when Chicago won.

Wow, Fish popped him a few good ones! I also wanted the Wings to get Claude Lemieux after the Devils swept 'em in the Finals. I guess it kind of worked out fine anyway, except for Drapes. Then again, if we had The Turtle we never would have seen quite possibly the greatest Red Wings game of all time.

Well, this is the 2nd slump as we lost 6 in a row starting in October. I don't know about you but I'm not used to seeing 2 slumps in the same year with this team.

Not sure that this is in the same spirit as the topic suggests but to have Todd Bertuzzi not sucker punch Steve Moore thereby ending his career would be nice.
