Hockeyinsiderr is the most Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde of all the sources, at times he does exactly what you say and he breaks a story before anyone else, than other times hes way off in left field and is Eklundesque. Ones I watch out for that haven't been listed: @NHLTheInsider @Russostrib (hes a writer for Pittsburgh Trib and is famous for over blowing everything Pens, and under valuing anything about other teams) @HChockeytalk @NHL_Trade
-
Unless the Pens make a major trade they do not have the cap space to sign both.

We will have the first overall next season to keep us warm if that's Holland's plan. -

Really? Hes getting 6.6 million and has not been even worth half that since he joined the Flames. P.S. Jimmy D just said on FAN590 the Wings plan to spend to the salary cap, so I am abit comforted.

Sorry if you don't see it, but the team lost one top 3 ever D-man and an above average second pairing D-man, and will lose a 25 goal scorer. If Holland doesn't address these holes the team may not even be a playoff team next year. Lets face it, with Lidstrom, Hudler and Stuart the Wings got bounced in the first round in 5 games, so if they don't upgrade the line up there is no reason to think they will do anything better next season. Will people be pissed, damn straight people will be, the Wings are 8 million under the cap floor and almost 25 under the limit, if this isn't a time to take some chances on a few UFAs there never will be one. -
Throw Cleary and the obligatory bag of pucks in and we have a deal.
-
I don't see all the hate, he scored 25 goals, and played a much better game this last season. I along with some others don't see how the team gets much better if Hudler leaves and they replace him with someone who had around the same number of points for more money.
-
who's on the outs if we sign multiple forwards?
Shaman replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
The Wings need to spend 8 million to reach the cap floor, they need 2-3 players... they have all the money in the world, just need to make it happen. -
The 3rd/4th line options should be addressed later in July when the bargain players will be available. Also Detroit will have 20-21 players once Abby and Quincey are signed, so they will have to make some trades to even be able to sign the top 6 player and top 2 Dman they need.

A report today said Parise will not comment on contract talks with the Devils, I there only a couple days until Free Agency... it appears he will at least test the waters.

Not a bad price for the pylon. Still don't know why he's so popular with GMs
-
If Eklund says a player is on the market, you can bet your bottom dollar that player is not on the market. If this is true though, its a salary dump, therefore the value of the player being dumped is lower than normal market value... I would say probably Franzen+mid tier prospect+high pick 2013.
-
Okay, now we know the following for sure: Kovalchuck will be a Devil next season Parise will not be a Devil.

This team doesn't need to get older, better to get younger and take a chance on Semin.

The honest answer is yes, this is the make or break year for his legacy. When he took over the team in 97-98 he was given an amazing team that he had to maintain, but never was faced with any real challenges as a GM. Even when Yzerman retired and Shanny moved on he still have the pieces to make them so much replaceable parts. With Lidstrom gone, and Franzen being a 4 million dollar floater, the team needs certain pieces to be able to stay competitive in a league where the byword is parity.
-
Except he loves to take dumb penalties and his defensive game is still pretty rough.

Just started the show 2 days ago, now I am in the middle of season 2, its 4 am after a very long day and I am severely conflicted between sleep and another episode.
-
The wings are pretty deep at forward, have decent defensive prospect depth but almost no depth at goalie. The Wing's farm system has been ranked this year as a top ten group.
-
Hossa said he liked Pittsburgh and Detroit. A lot of future UFAs say in the month before UFA starts that they love the city, want to stay, etc. Usually doesn't stop them from testing free agency.
-
Why wouldn't he be expensive? If he is able to keep up 30 goal production than there is no way the Blues part with him cheaply, especially to the Wings.
-
I don't expect a lock out, that is a nuclear option neither side can afford to use. The NHL has just started to recover from the last lockout one this soon after the last one could and probably will cause the NHL to drastically decline. If there isn't a new CBA approved ASAP I can see them doing a one year extension of the current CBA just to keep a lockout from happening, but, I think they get one done and there's a reduction in the cap limit as a result.
-
There is a lot of fear on this board that Holland will do little to nothing on the 1st, on the second he will say to Khan or St James 'I explored the options, there was nothing to my liking/too expensive, I will wait until later in the month to sign bargain bin players'. This will be followed by signing a couple meh players, and Holland saying 'I think this team is competitive and I like our odds, and I have cap space to use at the deadline to fix any holes'. The final act of this play would be 'well I explored all the options and the NHL is just so competitive that all the players I wanted were too expensive' and quickly followed by 'When X player gets off the DL that will be our deadline'.
