Worst signing of Holland's tenure... I hate this -
**DISCLAIMER** I apologize for posting yet ANOTHER crazy roster suggestion, but as it's a couple days away from 7/1 and, well, I'm bored... here goes... Second disclaimer - I'm aware of the unliklihood of the trade being made, just wondering what everyone would think if this could get pulled off... Part One, FA signings: Ryan Sutter Damien Brunner Alex Semin Part Two, Trades: To CGY: Franzen, Kindl, Quincey To Det: Iginla, Boumeester *******ONLY FORMATTED THIS WAY FOR LAYOUT - NOT LINE SUGGESTIONS***** FORWARDS Damien Brunner ($1.000m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Alexander Semin ($4.500m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Jarome Iginla ($7.000m) Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) Danny Cleary ($2.800m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.500m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Drew Miller ($0.838m) / DEFENSEMEN Ryan Suter ($7.000m) / Ian White ($2.875m) Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jay Bouwmeester ($6.680m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) DOug Janik ($0.550m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Joey MacDonald ($0.550m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $68,475,833; BONUSES: $37,500 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $1,724,167 Carry on with ripping this apart now Hell, even I acknowledge how crazy this is, but it's fun to think about! Agreed, I wouldn't give that either if they asked for more
-
You read very well and clearly read a whole thread before you comment... As well as a couple I just don't feel like searching for...
-
Agreed, I would have loved him here, but knew it was a pipe dream...
-
Once hell of a player and he moves the puck incredibly well... I just wish he weren't so damn small...
-
There ya go! Good contribution to the thread! Those are all very solid points... as I said in a couple previous posts, in the interest of trying to not be a homer, I went too far the other way when including the picks, I went back and ammened the post to just be players for players...
-
Agreed completely, but we also have a ton of capspace and he's been on HORRIBLE teams... his style of play would thrive here, I'm convinced of it... Just due to the sheer cap we'd be absorbing, I need to ammend my initial post - the picks are not necessary, you've all convinced me of that... Wow, when you put it that way... what a well thought out, in depth, eloquent thought... you've really shed a whole new light on it... Agreed completely!
-
There are certain things in life that you don't even joke about...
-
Re-read my post, those weren't line suggestions, that was merely for formatting, whoever earns the time gets it as far as I'm concerned... I don't play the line suggestion game...
-
I don't think Calgary would move Gio, but I'd be down with that too... As for the picks, well played, haha
-
I openly admitted that I may have shot too far in the other direction in attempts to not be a homer... So take away the picks and/or change them, I still think this trade would make sense for both parties...
-
While I may have shot too high in the interest of trying to not look at the trade with red colored glasses on, you are WAY over valuing our pieces in the deal... You have to give to get and Iginla and Boumeester are both very valuable assets... Also, Iggy still put up over 30 goals last year...
-
You dirty bastard, haha I agree it'd be steep, but you got to give to get... Fair enough, I wonder if we could get it done on players and prospects alone... you bring up a very valid point about the picks
-
I honestly think Cleary is going to have a bounce back year... he takes a lot of flack, but the guy plays with a lot of heart, you can never have too much of that and I'll give him a pass for his last season due to the knees... now, if he has another year like last, then, fair enough, we need to start talking about him moving on... Boumeester would fit our style amazingly, and I think would flourish here, Iginla is on the last year of his deal, and he'd bring a lot of fire for a cup, plus a toughness and a bonafide scorer in the league (not to mention PP specialist) With that said, maybe dial back the picks to one, but I think this deal would favor us, not Calgary to be honest, even with the two picks... I just don't think Calgary would take it, that's why I don't think it would happen...

to add to your point, those were salary cap free days as well...

How is everyone completely overlooking Asham? For the record, my number one on this wish list is Gaustad and Prust second, but I think Asham would be fantastic on our 4th line...
-
Flip proved last year that he is a top 6 player - if he's going to play center, it will be because Dats and Z are together on the top line, which isn't a bad thing... but he is not, nor should he be, relegated to 3rd line duty with what he did last year...
-
yea, because Carter was a real bust in LA and Prospal never had any 80 point seasons as a top level playmaker... oh wait... Also, Fedorov, even at a declined level, was still an effective player when he went there... you could easily make the argument that maybe all those players would have put up better numbers on another team too... Further, note the comment about Nash's performance in the Olympics - 3rd lowest point total on the team and a horrible +/- on a dream team of sorts... You need to re-read my post too, I'm AGREEING that Nash could benefit from a change of scenery, and is a better player than his numbers in Colombus have dictated, but you're making him out to be the next coming of Gordon Howe, which he is not... all I'm doing here is playing devil's advocate and trying to keep things level here, as people are REALLY going to both extremes in this thread to try and proove their point - He is not Gordie Howe, he is also not a hack who shouldn't be paid top 6 money... The long and the short of it is - he's a valuable asset, but Howson is over-valuing him. period.

Ovi's first couple years in WSH, Kovy, Hossa AND Heatley in ATL (different times)... Nash played QUITE a few games with the likes of Fedorov, Vermette, Brassard, Vorachek, Prospal and most recently Carter... So... You were saying? I'm not saying your point isn't valid either, he hasn't had MUCH, but let's not act like he was carrying a pee-wee team into battle against NHL clubs either... He's had some talent around him... With that said, I think he could also be more productive on a better team, but not worth what Columbus is asking...

you know what they say, there isn't a bigger hockey hotbed than the UK, haha I'd like to see him given a shot here...
-
That would be the same Paek! He's been an assistant in GR for a couple years now and although he played in England, he spent several years in the NHL with the Pens and Kings and was actually born in Korea and raised in Canada, so techhhnicallyyyy, he learned his hockey in, of all places, Canada... shocker He was a D-man and has a pretty good defensive system... I think he'd be a good fit personally, I guess it just depends on how he meshes with Babs...

Snow should have circus music played every time he enters a room Oh, and Howson AND anyone who advised him to not take it, or stood by and didn't scream at him TO take it, should be fired immediately... Who knew someone would swoop in and relieve Milbury of the title of worst GM in NHL history? He better send Snow and Howson gift baskets...

Also a lateral move one could argue... I think that Fraser may have just needed a change of scenery...
