Sure, when Sawchuk played, goalies put up worse numbers than Manny Legace. Different era. Same with Hasek, Brodeur and Roy upon first entering the league. Back then, a save percentage of .900 was considered good. And Howard started his career playing behind the best top 4 defensemen in the league. Not many goalies can say that. His numbers will come back down now that he's playing behind an average NHL team. You know, kind of like most teams. Not sure why you mentioned Bryzgalov? Probably because he's the only goalie Howard can beat in a playoff series. Nobody thinks he's elite.

Since there are people on LGW who think Datsyuk and Zetterberg are better than Crosby, I question the choices of our members pertaining to who is and isn't an elite goalie.

I wouldn't give him any kind of pay increase unless he steals lots of games and improves his crappy stats. Unfortunately, the Wings don't have ready goalies in the minors like everyone else seems to have plenty of. Maybe Mrazek, but he's young and we don't know if he can handle the NHL yet.

Howard is an average goalie who gets paid like an average goalie. That was OK when we had the best top two defensive pairings in the league, but not anymore. I don't see us building the best defense in the league front of him anytime soon. At the same time, who will let us have an elite goalie in a trade or through free agency?

Not everyone can be as tough as pro wrestlers. But those guys take painkillers and roids to wrestle every week, which is why they don't live very long. It's hard to say whether our players could or couldn't be playing, but when your team is seemingly injury riddled every season, you have to question what kind of preparation or medical staff you have.

I told you guys we should have gotten Parros. But no GMR, everyone said. He doesn't score enough on the bottom lines.
