I think Callan Foote is a very realistic option based on how I feel the Wings will do this season. And I am totally okay with that. I do think the team finishes bottom 10 overall. My prediction is around 23rd-24th.
-
Nope. But I'd take him second in a heartbeat. If Nolan Patrick is on the board, you take him. Regardless of needs. A prospect like him allows current players to become expendable to make trades to fix the defense. With Patrick and Liljegren off the table, I'd keep my fingers crossed for Foote. In the end, we need depth down the middle as well.

In the end, it took Price 6 years to become the goalie he is now. I'm kind of willing to cut Mrazek some slack in just his second full season.
-
There are two things that make this team bad. Lack of high-end defense and a lack of high-end centers. Because of this, the guys we have who usually can score cannot.

If going Swedish means Timothy Liljegren, sign me up.

I know it seems like this team never starts skating until the third but in reality, it's just that the team we play end up sitting back on their lead. Deke looks bad because he is forced into a role beyond what he is capable of. That's not on him. That's on Holland. Just imagine the draft pick we'll get next summer. It makes it easier to stomach. In the end, they are secondary scorers who need elite players to play with. We have none. In the end, this game had better been enough to keep Sproul in the lineup every night.

I said nothing about tanking for 8 years. I've said multiple times in this thread that contention can come from merely one or two abysmal seasons. If the Wings lucked out and won the draft lottery for next summer, drafting a guy like Nolan Patrick combined with the new arena would be enough to keep asses in seats for a couple years. The two options in the poll are just straight up not realistic.

The fact that guys like Ott are those who are relied upon in important situations is half of the problem. Ott on a good team at this stage of his career is a part-timer at best. In Detroit, he is a guy who gets to play every night so the future of the team can stay in the AHL.

LGW, greatest top 6 forward in all of Michigan!

A run to the finals would make just as much money as a whole bunch of first round exits. I bet the Blackhawks are killing it these days with deep playoff runs almost every year.
-
If I were as bad as Blash and Holland at my job, I'd have been replaced long ago. Though to be fair, I would like to see what Blash could do without the weight of the playoff streak on his shoulders. I have little doubt that is the big factor forcing him into playing it overly safe by filling the lineup with defensive plugs.

There comes a point when a team will finish in the bottom 10 and simply have no say in the matter. This team is headed that way, judging the product on the ice I've been watching. By no means does that mean I think the sky is falling. In the end, I think a clean slate is what this franchise desperately needs right now. I just hope that come trade deadline, if they aren't in a playoff spot, that they are far enough out of one where selling is the only option. If the streak continues, so will the 5 game first round exits.

In the end, we have enough depth that if we were to acquire a couple of top 10 draft picks, there would be plenty of assets to make trades to fill holes. If the Wings keep drafting 15-20 at best, we'll be another 5 years of developing before contending again. One or two top picks significantly reduces that if we have a competent GM. Best case scenario is having the playoff streak end, Holland getting fired as a result, and scoring in the draft lottery. Another 10 years of what we dealt with for the past 4, or sucking for 8 years are both garbage options. Suck for one or two and this team is competitive again. Luckily this team has the ability to suck without tanking on purpose. Blash and the beat writers will keep stressing about having to fix the mistakes the team makes. These mistakes are made because the team is overmatched most nights. The roster is just not that good right now. And with Trouba seemingly off the market, there seems to be no dman trades out there that helps the team in the future.
-
This is actually a good thing. Just missing the playoffs increases the chance of a top 3 pick.
-
The thing is, with the stockpiling of talent Holland has done over the last few years, this team could be a lottery team for 1 or 2years and be right back in the hunt. The depth is there, talent is there, we just lack that elite talent. Draft one or two guys in the top 10 (or even top 5), and the assets are there to make the moved needed to fix the defense. To sum things up, I'd be fully on board seeing the team suck for a shot at Nolan Patrick. If the streak ended in any of the last few years, I'd have been heartbroken. This season I just feel ready for it. As a fan, I am within a window where I am prepared for a basement season and a clean slate. This is because the alternative is to keep the streak going and be stuck in mediocrity for a bunch more years.
-
The market determines a player's trade value, not the suckage of a team. With Holland as the GM, there will ALWAYS be another team willing to pay more.
-
Until the playoff streak ends, vets will always play over the kids. It sucks, but nobody in management has the guts to fully invest in a youth movement.
-
I'm not letting this s*** bother me this season because we need the playoff streak to end, and a lottery pick would sure as hell come in handy at this point. This team is bad, and the only reason why they are as high in the standing as they are is because of goalies stealing games during a lucky six game winning streak. This is a bottom 10 team. I just hope Vanek keeps it up when he returns. He would fetch a nice return at the deadline.
-
How this game is going just means we will get more Drew Miller next game.
-
This. Back then it was also common to have a team finish the season having scored 300 goals as well. We never see anyone get close to that anymore.
-
Time to put this dream to rest I just wonder if we'll see the same thing unfold again in summer 2018

Tyler Bertuzzi recalled... Vanek to LTIR

This organization won't be happy with Mantha until he is a 200-foot player who they can use as a net-front presence. He will never get to blossom in Detroit with the current management in place. -
and we all miss sirdrake

We all get it. You hate Helm and Abby. Maybe go start a fan club?
-
Helm and Abby have value. Those contracts can be moved at any time. We're def stuck with the other two, though. I can't argue in favor of those deals what so ever.
