Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

Anything really. Whatever it takes to turn a 3 year hit into just 1, while we have the space. Then hope for better luck in UFA next year with even more money. -

at this point, use the dats cap space to rid Howard. Offer him up and take back only a bad contract back, that has a shorter term. Basically trade Howard's 3 years for a player on a s*** contract but only has one year left. To a team in need of a goalie. -

Signing Neilson is nothing more than a desperate attempt to keep the streak alive. Which is all we have to look forward to until the streak finally ends. -

Nope. Trade one of Goose or Tats if and only if it's part of a package for a dman. Agreed on Brouwer and Backes, but would much rather Okposo than Eriksson. Goose and Tats canbe the guys to put up Erikson numbers. It's players like Backes, Brouwer, Okposo that would create the space for them to do their thing. Trading Goose and Tats to bring in Eriksson just doesn't make any sense. If we get a top 6 center like Backes and add a winger that brings a new element to the team, it would go a long way to help the more skilled guys we do have to play their game. What you suggest would just make the team a lot older, leading to even more declining players in 3-4 years. I think if it takes a 5-6 year deal to get Backes here, Holland should do it. He could be a huge part of this team down the middle for the next couple years, then become a role guy when the youth take over the top 6 roles. If he declines to a point his cap is a deterrent to the team, trade him to whatever rebuilding team needs a character guy to help out with their kids. -

This lineup would get eaten alive. Helloooo draft lottery -
Other than Stamkos, which FA forward do you want?

Backes and someone like like Okposo or Brouwer can make this a playoff team. finding the right dman can even make the Wings a competitive playoff team. It would also give Larkin and AA to grow into legit top 6 centers. If we miss out on those guys, that's when i'll be worried about Holland doing something dumb to keep the streak alive. -
He got the best years out of Weber's Philly offer sheet contract, and have now replaced him with someone younger and better suited to how the game is played today. Preds fans got a lot to look forward to. Weber is gonna be counted on to play even more minutes in Montreal, meaning possession against the Habs will increase. Stay out of the box vs the Habs to avoid him running the pp and you're set.

Any thoughts on Brian Campbell on a 1 or 2 year deal if a trade for a dman doesn't pan out? I feel like it could be a good if all else fails option to give some of the youth in the system time to show what they can do. -

He's a winger -

Backes and Okposo/Brouwer. Give the team some big bodies that show up in the playoffs. They bring an element that will allow guys like Goose and Tats to do their thing. If all else fails and the above go elsewhere, if Staal can be had for a year or 2, do it. Give depth down the middle while Larkin and AA grow into their roles as top 2 NHL centers. Hank needs to play on the wing. Period. -
As in past his prime?

The Canadian economy has a huge impact on the league as a whole. You know, that whole revenue sharing thing? 6 Canadian teams contributed to 1/3rd of revenue when the economy was good. Now 7 teams can;t crack 25% of revenue. Why do you think the cap barely rose? There are still other centers that will be signed long before Staal. He isn't magically #1 on teams list with Stamkos gone. He wasn't even on the radar before today. For the most part, still isn't.

Hall for Larsson - Oilers and Devils swap players

I said nothing about a few years. He will make an impact in Edmonton instantly. He is the real deal. His numbersarwnt high because of the team he played with. -
Keep bringing up this examples from multiple years ago. Last year is a better example of how things will play out. Canadian economy in the s***s, cap barely rose. Teams don't spend wrecklessly like they used to.

Duncan Keith has been playing hockwy until June most years as a reason to not have a lot left in the tank these playoffs. What's Weber's excuse?

According to lebrun the wings never even got the chance to pitch to Stamkos. So much for that "being so close" tweet. -
I'm actually gonna question your experience watching free agency, as just last year there was no big, reckless spending. Guys like Lucic, Backes, Ladd will get paid. But you're crazy if you think anyone is gonna break the bank for Eric Staal. The guy is a huge question mark right now and has said himself he looks forward to a fresh start and fully expects to have to prove himself first.

A lottery year could be a blessing in disguise at this point. Lots of good talent in the system, just lacking that high end player. Would be a huge boost to the rebuild on the fly. -
He isn't going to get a long term high dollar contract. Just watch, he will sign a one year deal somewhere to try and prove he has some hockey left in him.

Dmen cost a lot more than wingers in today's NHL. Oilers had a need, and they paid what they had to. -

I personally think jersey made a mistake trading a potential franchise dman for a winger. Win for Edmonton. A risk? Sure. But the reward makes Edmonton a MUCH better team -
Like I said. Short term deal. If you haven't noticed, we have no top 6 center.

Larsson will fit in great. He will grow into the dman he was projected to be with all the firepower Edmonton has. Edmonton will win this trade in the end.
