Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams

    He isn't 35

We'd lose less in a trade than an offer sheet. There is a reason why they are rarely used: loss of first round picks. I'm not gonna get overly excited over an exhibition game. But I do hope he learns a lot at this tournament.

    Calder finalists

McDavid was the best rookie while he was playing. Voters felt he has played enough games to get the nod, and I can't say I disagree. Would have been nice to see Larkin get recognition, but it's been a phenomenal year for rookies, Larkin included. In the end we still have a potential franchise center to build around.

    Fixing this mess....

Agreed. The draft seems to be pretty deep on forwards, and unless there is a dman that happens to go unpicked by the time the Wings are up, they should draft the best man available rather than a dman for the sake of a need. Use the rest of the picks to fill needs. Of course this also means going hard for a guy like Trouba via trade is an absolute must. That would give us time to develop dmen. Give Russo a season in GR as the top guy, along with a couple of looks with the Wings to see what we have. I also think Hicketts has the makings of an NHL dman despite his size.

Maple Leafs win 2016 draft lottery

Hopefully for Matthews' sake Leafs fans are a little understanding and don't turn on him when he goes through struggles playing in the NHL as a teenager. Ahhh who am I kidding? Howard would be a good fit in Toronto. They'd never win with him, but he'd provide some stability in that position until they do find their future goalie.

Exactly. At worst they might want a 4th round pick for one of their 5th rounders as part of the deal, as we do have to take something in return. But that's about it.

You think Air Canada is a well respected company? Ask any Canadian. They are quite hated. Nobody is a fan of Bell either. And at the same time, nobody also cares that arenas are named after them.

This is actually exactly what I'd love to see roster-wise, except go all in after Stamkos when Datsyuk makes Russia official.

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams

Being positive is nice and all, but come on. Fedorov being a big part of us getting him? I'd imagine he'd be trying to keep him for his own team rather than persuade him to come here. I have some bad news if you think Datsyuk would stick around for one more year if Raduov signed here: He won't. Datsyuk is longing to move home to be close with his family. Not have a Russian player to come join him in Detroit. Goose and Tats are good trade bait. But we only need to trade one of them, if any. This team needs to get bigger and harder to play against. We do not need a softy and a potential locker room cancer. If someone wants to give him another chance, let them. Under no circumstances do I think it should be Holland.

Hurler>>>radulov. Not that I think huds is the answer either.

There are UFAs out there that can be had on the cheap that will likely produce a hell of a lot more than Radulov will.

Firschweiler doesn't need a new role, he needs to be off of the coaching staff. Period.

Alexander Radulov: Wings on short-list of desired teams

Goose and Tatar actually work hard. Why would you want Radulov in place of them? Also, he was last in the league in 2012, and was an absolute train wreck and distraction to his team. The guy has had two chances to prove himself in the NHL and blew it both times. He is the exact opposite of what this team needs. I'd rather us have the Leafs roster than to see him wearing the Winged wheel. At least the Leafs work hard.

All big businesses take advantage of tax breaks. It's nothing new. It's easy to say tax payers will never see a cent, but this is an arena that will be there for decades. Money will be generated in the economy. It's the reason why tax payer money is used in these projects to begin with. If owners had to foot 100% of the bill for these arenas, 90% of the new buildings in the league wouldn't exist. No teams would make any money, where as the economy would still benefit from all the money spent at events all year round. The arena is great for the city, and that's why tax payer dollars go towards it. For the record, I think corporations getting tax breaks is garbage, but that is a completely different topic fit for somewhere else. But we'd take them as well if we were given the chance. Such is life.

I'd imagine there would be some sort of tax break in there as well. But who knows! I do also see the allure of having your own company having the naming rights (and getting all the perks that come with that) and not have to bow to any other potential corporate demands. From a business stand point it makes a lot of sense to me. As far as the advertising aspect of it goes, i've been tuning that garbage out for so long now it has zero affect on me lol. It goes back the the Staples Center example. Never in my life have I ever thought of Staples when hearing that building mentioned. Not even when seeing the lit up logo on my TV screen. I always just see them as redundant and meaningless names, and the proof is out there that it's what happens in these buildings that make them meaningful over what they're called. Look at The Joe. Does anyone care about that place like they do now without those 4 cups wins? Probably not. It would probably be seen more as an ageing, ugly building that has basically been in need of upgrades since the day it opened. The city is getting a great new arena. Yeah, it would be awesome if it could be named after Gordie. But we all knew from the start that was never going to happen. I'm just gonna focus on the positives. Which is literally everything else but the name itself.

You honestly think Illitch isn't gonna gain anything out of this? lol. I guess Staples Center is seen as such a big joke to right? With the logo being on the roof and all. Terrible. Amirite? Edit: for the record, the picture used in that wxyz link with the logo on the roof does look dreadful, and based on that I would understand the concerns. BUT I'm quite confident it will be done with a little more elegance that that s***ty photoshop job in that link. Hence why I threw the Staples Center example out there. I mean, that's a really dumb sponsor as well. But I've not once thought of Staples when seeing that place. I think LA. I think of the Kings, and the Lakers with their many championships. That arena just emits success. What I'm getting at here is that it isn't the name of this place that will make it. It's what will happen on the inside.

In Canada we have arenas named after monopolistic cable companies, a s***ty airline, a bank (because we all know what stand up companies banks are). Wanna know what these buildings have in common besides being named after s***ty corporations? They are all awesome places to catch a game. At least the Wings new arena is being named after a business based out of the city and not simply sold to the highest bidder. Does it sound a little silly? Perhaps. But so does half of the other arenas out there. It will be called by its abbreviation more than anything. The name of these buildings is literally the least important thing about them this day and age. But oh wait, I live in Newfoundland so what the f*** do I know, right?

Let me elaborate: I don't care what ANY area is called. They are basically all funded by tax payer dollars, and basically all with a corporate sponsored name. Even here in Canada, believe it or not. Welcome to the 21st century. I live in a place where we starting this year are gonna have to pay a fee out of every pay just to LIVE here. So excuse me if I think whining about the name of an arena is a little petty. Us here would kill to see our tax dollars go to something we could actually enjoy.

All I can say if his contract forces Holland to protect him, he has to buy him out. Ideally he'd move him this summer. But god damn.

Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

Regardless, they're likely to trade someone this summer so they can get picks/prospects in return that they don't have to protect. If I'm a GM of a team that won't be a cup contender next year, I'm deciding now who to protect in the expansion draft and trading anyone outside of that of any value on draft day to stock the farm and land more picks. I would definitely not leave good players exposed and to lose for nothing.

I stand corrected, but still do not care. Like I've previously said. Nobody will care about what the building is called come game time. There are also much worst companies that could have bought the naming rights.

    New arena construction updates

It seems as if the only thing about an arena Wings fans care about is the name of it. I'm glad all I give a crap about is the experience I have while I'm there. I also think the LCA is a pretty decent nickname for the place. Not the end of the world, as some make it seem. The whole thing reminds me of when a website like Facebook changes. Everyone flips out, complains for a week, then forgets about it. Come puck drop in October nobody will care any more.
