I've missed these

Only 3 teams were comfortably in the playoffs, and until the last month of the season we were right there with them. In the parity era, you're either a top team, one of sooooooo many competitive teams, or a bad/inexperienced team. Even the top teams in the league this day and age have holes. So while the Wings barely made the playoffs, we were one of 6 teams fighting for 5 playoff spots. A better shootout record would have had us up there with the top teams. So there is no excuses to regress now. Like the media and management have been saying, a new voice can bring new life to veterans. That combined with the fact that the kids will be better, this team should be one of those top teams next season. This roster really isn't that far away from that. We got a couple years of contending, then another transition begins when Dats retires (albeit shouldn't be as long this time around).

If the team misses the playoffs, everyone should be accountable. From the coach right through the entire roster. The team is rebuilding yes, But the kids have some experience now. It is on them and the coaches to take things to the next level. If the team goes through a set back next season, there is no pass for anyone.

For sure. The team is definitely on the right path though. I think the chances of the team doing at least as well are high. The leadership is too good and too proud to accept anything less.

The only reason why hiring Blash is a gamble compared to hiring Bowman and Babcock is because hiring Bowman and Babcock were 100% not gambles. Hiring anybody not Mike Babcock going into next season would have been some sort of a gamble.

He coached in GR for 3 years. What else is he supposed to do at this point? Babs was a rookie coach once as well. Just sayin'.

Perhaps working on a 3 year deal to keep the coaches and gm all in sync

The only way missing the playoffs make sense is if we go all Buffalo with it. f*** that. I'm drunk again so pardon my f***ign ***** ass french, but jesus. We have the deepest prospect pool in the league. We are in a position where the team can compete, and we have the depth to now make trades to fill holes in the roster. Tanking a season gives us one potential instant high end player. Key word: POTENTIAL. The streak will mean that much more once we make a run again. Let Chicago be the next team to win 3 cups in 6 years. Let us be the team to win one again without ever missing the playoffs. THAT is something that would never be done again. I see this and all I can hear in my head is JR flipping out. Not because I've seen this, but just because JR kicks ass. Hopefully Blash is to coaching as JR is to BAH GAWD

I know you're being sarcastic, but it really is great. Blash is the right way to go. He has been groomed for this for the past 4 years.

Thing is, as far as the league is concerned, you know their ideal scenario is to have a big market vs a small market in the finals every year. Big market to draw ratings, small market to "grow the game". I'm willing to bet if the Rangers won 2 nights ago that goal last night would not have counted.
