Pavs is a game time decision tomorrow. My guess is he plays by the weekend at the latest at this point.
-
The Buffalo and Carolina games are my concern. Losing either of those could be catastrophic. You'd have to think those teams would love the chance to contribute to ending the streak. Wings gotta be on their toes and play complete games.

Seems he won't be ready for tomorrow

I've been seeing on twitter a lot the last few days that Alfie has been playing with a broken pinky and/or ring finger. Would explain his lack of ice time and production.

The Raycroft and Kessel trades are exactly what that fan base deserve. Along with the Clarkson and Phaneuf contracts.
-
Remember Rask for Raycroft? Bahahahahahahahaha

Dats won't be 100%, z will be back from back surgery. Babs will be smart with how they are used. I'm sure z will be on key pks once he is fully back in game shape, but we still need pk regulars. Luckily we have guys that can do that and bring a lot of speed and energy to the team.

Us smart folk from Toronto just become Wings fans.

LEafs fans deserve every bit of this. Sure there are a few good Leafs fans I feel sorry for. But their general fan base? This looks good on them.

To sum up the name of this thread: They don't. They really don't.

Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

He's 22, and he wanted lots of minutes without earning it. We need team players, not egos. -
After seeing what Abby brought to the table last years playoffs, we're gonna need him. He also brought a lot of energy in his return last game as well. A lot of tough decisions to be made up front regardless. Good problem to have.

Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

It isn't gonna teach Holland a thing, as he literally almost never makes these kind of trades. It was a circumstance where he HAD to make a move for a center. You act as if he needs to be taught a lesson to never trade a kid again. Yet he is the most stingy GM in the league when it comes to trading prospects since the cap era. Look it up. You're acting as if trading away prospects is Holland's MO, when it is the complete opposite of that. Lucky Goose didn't ask for a trade? Please... Nyquist getting all that AHL time is the reason why he is finding so much success at the NHL level right now. It is why this team is able to develop prospects so well. It is why this franchise has been the envy of the league for a long time. Same goes with Tatar. He didn't threaten to leave, he said he wasn't going to play in the AHL anymore, which we all knew considering, you know, he was out of AHL options and had to be with the big club anyway. Goose and Tatar earned their way into the lineup. They weren't just handed their ice time. Jarnkrok didn't want to earn his ice time. He wanted it right away. That is why the kids we do have are thriving, and why Jarnkrok is gone. -
Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

He got his few games in at the NHL level. He has some secondary assists and a couple bad penalties that led to goals against at bad times. Like Washington tying last nights game. Hardly the type of start that would get him the top line minutes he wants on this Red Wings permanently. When the cap issues prevented Nyquist from being on the roster, he kept his head up, said the right things, and played his heart out in Grand Rapids. Jarnkrok was wanting unearned big NHL minutes. This is the Red Wings. Not Edmonton Oilers. Kids have to earn their way here. Was Nyquist tearing it up right off the bat? Not at all. But he kept working at it and kept getting better. He had the right attitude, Jarnkrok didn't. That's why we have Nyquist tearing it up, and why the latter is gonna be stuck in Nashville where their big name players will leave the first chance they get. You're getting hung up on this 'top rated prospect' thing while ignoring the fact that he was never gonna get the ice time he wanted here and wanted out as result. This has been confirmed on trade deadline day by a guy who knows what he's talking about. Nobody is saying you can't think it is a bad trade. But at some point, you have to realize it is all said and done. It can't be reversed. Getting pissed at Holland every time he gets an assist isn't going to change it. Getting pissed about it is not gonna prevent Holland from making moves that has to be made going down the road. -
There are gonna be so many people on these forums eating crow once Weiss is healthy. And I cannot wait.

Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

Like someone else has stated. Jarnkrok was never going to play for the Wings. I'm glad that was brought up, as this trade makes even more sense now. I like how you conveniently ignore that post so you can keep complaining about the trade. He wanted big minutes in the NHL, and was unwilling to earn them. Because of that, he was never gonna play here. So we got a legit center that we were in desperate need of to make a run for the playoffs. Both sides got something they needed. Both sides are happy. But hey, keep on bumping this thread every time he gets an assist. I'm sure everyone loves it. Matthias was also a highly touted prospect. People lost their minds when he was traded as well. And oh look, the team has been just fine. -

Get ready for all the "Holland should have given him a shot" & "Jarkrok would have gotten us a top 4 dman" responses -
Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

Exactly. Matthias would have been nice to have. But with all the kids we have now there would be either no spot for him or one of the current kids would be bumped out of the lineup. As long as the great drafting and developing of players continues, losing Jarnkrok will not effect this team going forward. It is one prospect. Some in here carry on as if Holland sold the farm. Before the same couple of people start putting words in my mouth once again, I'm not saying Jarnkrok will never be a good player. I'm simply saying even if he turns out to be a career top 6 forward, the Wings will do just fine and we will have plenty of other young players to fill the void that has been left by him. This isn't an organization whose life depends on one or two kids in the system. This is an organization that has been great at developing players, and will continue to do so. And for those saying they hope Jarnkrok turns into a star so Holland never does this again. If a situation comes up where this team absolutely needs something and it will cost an asset to get it, Holland will pull the trigger. So please stop acting as if he does this all the time, as he may make a trade like this once every half a dozen years. Exactly this. Matthias is only now seeming to start playing the way he was hyped to. After what, 6 or so years? Even then it is too small a sample size to see if it will continue. But as I said, if we had Matthias now, another kid would not be playing. A trade like this once every blue moon does not hurt a team like the Red Wings. Hell, it didn't even hurt precap era much either as we still drafted gems. -
By the time we play the Pens we should have players back, and they will be Malkinless. Bruins and Blues are not gonna sit back. Those are two teams hell bent on playing at a high level going into the playoffs. The Bruins had a scare last year from coasting into the first round. They won't make that mistake again. Habs are playing well. Should be able to match them with a couple more bodies back in the lineup. Teams like the Canes and Sabres are the ones you gotta be careful with this time of year. Teams out of the hunt love to play spoiler, and there are always players who are playing for jobs next season. In the end, it will be great to steal a point vs the Bruins and Blues. Gotta escape those games without any injuries. Blues game especially will be a good game to get ready for the first round. Bad news if making the playoffs comes down to that game though. Pens I think the Wings will give them all they can handle. Could go either way really. The game with the Habs would be very nice to win. Wings are definitely capable, as we came close last time while not playing well at all. Sabres and Canes are my biggest worry. They HAVE to show up and not take them lightly. Losing those games could be costly.

Problem with Ovie is he hasn't evolved his game. He plays the same way now as he did when he came into the league. Sure he scores a lot of goals. But that is literally all he does. It is no surprise almost all of his scoring has been coming on the powerplay, as teams obviously know how to shut him down for the most part at even strength.
-
All I know is that I don't think there is any chance Glendening is coming off this roster when the team is healthy. Can't take any of the guys with speed out of the lineup.
-
Too many of the same kind of player. All these number one picks, keep drafting the highest rated player rather than draft what they need. To this day I don't get why they drafted Yakupov. They should have drafted a Dman. That is just the problem with the team itself. Their management is an absolute mess. They need to start over right from the top. They have a lot of good players, and can quickly turn it around with the right people in charge. A few of the right trades and they are a much better team. It isn't like they don't have the assets.
