He fleeced NYR for Smith and got less than he hoped for Vanek due to the market for wingers being weak. I fail to see your point.

Red Wings trade Vanek to FLA for (D) Dylan McIlrath and Conditional 3rd Round Pick

This. There was a lot of overpayment this deadline, but it was all on dmen and centers. -
Red Wings trade Vanek to FLA for (D) Dylan McIlrath and Conditional 3rd Round Pick

Buyers dictate the cost of rentals. In the end, all a GM can do is accept the best offer they have. This is why I hoped to see this trade happen a couple days ago. The returns get smaller on deadline day. Teams overpay a few days before the deadline to ensure they get their player. -
But all the big names were gone before deadline day. Deadline day itself was nothing but scrubs and ahl players being moved. GM's aren't waiting for deadline day anymore. If a player is available, they are going for it. That's why the prices are higher. GM's overpay to get the players they want early. Which is why Holland needs to act now, and not march 1st. Vanek and Smith shouldn't even be red wings by the time we wake up tomorrow.
-
That wasn't the case at all last year. As for the worry, it stems from the organization being idiots and willing to play a player in tomorrow's game that, going by current market value in trades, can easily fetch a first round pick. If Vanek gets hurt tomorrow, he has zero trade value.
-
I feel Holland will hold out for too high a price, and teams will just pursue other players. Vanek, Smith, and Ott should have had played their last game as a Wing at this point. Playing them tomorrow would be idiotic.
-
I'm merely pointing out the fact that they can't use a UFA to fulfill the requirements to expose players.
-
They can only expose an RFA. Vegas will have a window to try and work out a deal with Bishop before the expansion draft, which would count as LA's lost player if he signs. BUT LA cannot use Bishop as their exposed goalie. It's still gonna be Zatkoff.
-
Vegas has to submit their draft choices by June 20th. That's before the window to talk to UFAs begins.
-
As does all other teams
-
This is not true.
-
But they can't expose a UFA... Has to either be a player contracted for next season or RFA only.
-
Why would Vegas draft a UFA? That doesn't make any sense. If Bish has any interest in Vegas, he can sign there July 1st. Vegas does not need to, and won't, waste a pick on a UFA.
-
Bish is UFA this summer. They got him as insurance. With Quick's style and coming back from a bad groin injury, they are making sure they have a goalie for a run.
-
To be fair, Quick hasn't played in months. I guess they feel they can make a run, and want to have another proven goalie to get them there, as the schedule for most teams in this last stretch of the season is pretty brutal.

At this point, I'd expect to see Myers be the odd man out on Winnipeg. There is just no reason for them to trade Trouba anymore.
-
While I do not think Trouba is overrated, I agree that Liljegren should be the priority if we have a high enough pick to get him. That being said, if we win the lottery, my vote is on drafting Patrick and giving up Larkin or AA for Trouba straight up.
-
The thing is, Green only has one year left after this season. Doesn't hurt the team. He'll easily bring in at least a second round pick at next year's deadline. It's the long-term contracts like Ericsson's that hurt.
-
At least the Leafs are using him right

2/18 GDT - Capitals at Red Wings - 2:00 PM EST
marcaractac replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in 2016-17
He started getting the starts because Coreau began to struggle. The more Mraz played, the better he got. But it's good. Only by playing (even through adversity) will he work out the weaknesses. -
It all depends on where they finish in the draft lottery. I mean, win the lottery, then absolutely. Trade Larkin for Trouba. But beyond that, it is just creating one hole by filling another. Which is why trying to use the pick to get him may be the best option.
-
Depends which of the top 5 picks we get, if any. If we win the Nolan Patrick sweepstakes, for example, I'm calling Arizona to see what it would take to get OEL. That's something I'd overpay for.
-
That was the look of "I f***ed up". He reacted without thinking, and basically did the most gutless thing he possibly could have. I have no doubt that he regrets it. But he did it, it was gross, and I think that because of it, his season should end early.

Google it

I personally think Goose should be suspended for the season. No room for that garbage in the league.
