If a team and a player have a handshake deal in place and sign it after the expansion draft, the team will be punished. Sure UFAs can sign after the draft. But if there are cases where there are questions about whether or not a deal was more or less in place before hand, but signed afterward specifically to avoid having to protect the player, the league will investigate. Otherwise, every team would just wait to ink the deal with their players after the expansion draft, which would screw over Vegas pretty hard. Bill Daly has come out and said himself that teams will be punished if caught circumventing the expansion draft in this manner.
-
Right! Forgot to factor in Vegas.
-
This would be circumventing the expansion draft, in which the Wings would get punished by the league. Vanek has been great. It's also great that he'll be able to bring this team some much-needed assets at the trade deadline. Time for this team to worry about the future instead of the present.

Yes. But if they finish 3rd last, the lowest they can pick is 6th.

Amazing what can happen when a goalie is given the chance to work out the kinks. Here's to hoping Mrazek starts next game. -
It was definitely Blash who decided to take Goose and Mantha off the pp. I'm not sure there is any doubt about that. All because of his silly gripes over one missed assignment. I mean, we all see how Blash manages the roster. Do you honestly think a man running the pp would willingly be throwing Sheahan out there in a situation late in a game down by one? Because I really can't lol.
-
Because Blash is the one who decides Sheahan should be on the pp, including a time when down 4-3 against the Devils with a chance to tie the game. I wish they'd just admit they were trying to lose. I wouldn't get frustrated with this s*** then.

I'm just glad he is gone. It bugged me when he got to play over the likes of Sproul.

disney.com scores, therefore he has cemented a role in the top six -
Also, here is a very blunt prediction: The Leafs will be the team to eliminate the Wings from the playoffs mathematically, redefining the meaning of irony.
-
And a player that is basically a spare part on an NHL team has no value in the trade market. If he can't crack this defense, he sure as hell won't crack anyone else's. I am certain that if he does get claimed, he will be waived by the team that claims him before the year ends. You can quote me on that.

Kindl had more tools to his game than Marchenko ever will. The hope with Kindl was that a change of scenery would help him. It didn't. That's why he was worth a draft pick, and Marchenko is not. I also said his ceiling is to become a good defensive defenseman. At this point in his career, he is barely above useless at the NHL level. I wouldn't even be surprised to see him go unclaimed, to be honest. He's basically another Lashoff. He is useless to a contender. He is useless to a rebuilding team, as in no way is Marchenko ever gonna be a piece that a rebuilding team wants. Every summer there are veteran UFAs that can do what he can do, but far better. They also don't cost much. He will make a great career holding that 7th spot on defense.
-
We don't expect to see better results, we just expect to see proper development of our young players. Hard for that to happen when Blash punishes the kids for each little mistake, yet let vets reek with mediocrity all season long without losing their spot. We wanna see guys like Jurco and Sproul play, take their lumps and learn from it. Become better players. They are not going to improve as healthy scratches every night. We need a coach who has the balls to not be afraid to lose until the kids learn how to win. Blash has proven to not be that guy for nearly two years now. The experiment needs to end.
-
Ericsson has trade value, despite what many folks believe. Sure the Wings will have to retain salary in any deal for him, but as far as assets go, he will bring in more than Marchenko ever could. He isn't worth anything. He has been a healthy scratch on this current roster. He has no potential that is worth anything. He'll be a solid defensive dman at best. Those are a dime a dozen in UFA. No team is going to give up an asset for a dman with such limited potential. Right-handed or not. This is a win. I was worried Sproul might be the odd man out. Hopefully, once they realize this team won't sniff the playoffs, they'll give the kid some ice time.
-
Hell yeah! Marchenko is pretty worthless. If Holland has any brains he'll trade Smith. Despite what some think, he has SOME value.
-
And yet Detroit local media will still refuse to believe any of this mess has anything to do with Blash. I don't know why Sheahan is in the lineup every night. Let alone on the pp. #freejurco

A promotion is no good, he'd still have his fingers in the pot. Needs to be gone altogether. Blows my mind that they won't give Jurco a shot over Sheahan. Even if Jurco turns out to be a bust, he can't be any worst than Sheahan is right now. At least go with potential at this point. Kronwall just needs to retire. Got a lot of respect for the guy, but his knee won't let him play at this level any more. -
Frans Nielsen will represent Red Wings at NHL All-Star Game

I'm actually surprised the Tavares to Toronto media run hasn't started yet.

Here is what I'd like to see between now and the start of next season: Trade Vanek at the deadline, whether in playoff contention or not. If he is willing to put pen to paper before the trade deadline to stick around on a hometown discount, see what can be worked out. Term must be short. Same goes for Smith. If he wants to get paid, move him by the deadline. Trade Green. I like the guy, but like Vanek, he has more value to this team with what he can bring in. Be aggressive in trying to move Howard and Ericsson. Retain salary if need be, but they got to go. Trade Sheahan if he is still here after the expansion draft. Who am I kidding? When he is still here after the expansion draft. Let Ott and Miller walk. Let Jurco play out the season. See what we have. Expansion draft protection: Zetterberg, Nielsen, AA, Mantha, Helm, Tatar, Nyquist, Dekeyser, Ouellet, Sproul, Mrazek Look into bringing a veteran dman in on a short-term deal in UFA. If a move for a top dman makes sense, do it. If not, roll with what they have. Take the best available dman with the first round pick. No more maxing out the cap for the sake of it. Shed salary, save cap space for when the team is back on the upswing. Keep options and cap space open for when the right deal for a dman does come along. Edit: So far so good

He let in two last game. Your argument is invalid. He is the reason the team got 3 out of the last 4 possible points. -

Mrazek is the only reason they got point out of it. What are you even getting on with? -
And Ericsson's! If dumping those two contracts is all we did this summer, I'd be ecstatic.
