Our G will end up being Larsson and/or Petruzzelli... in time. I think you might see Larsson get a shot once Howard is gone. They'll go out and try and get Hutton or Bernier this off-season to fill the gap.

If Tkachuk falls to 6... do the Wings take him? I feel like it's also tempting if Wahlstrom is available.. but obviously we need a top D prospect. -
Bouchard or Hughes, I hope. Bouchard seems like he could step right in, but Hughes would need another season of college and maybe a little GR time... anyone else have any insights?

Agreed about Nielsen... he's probably here to stay through his contract. Trade chips would more than likely include Nyquist, Athanasiou, Helm, Glendening, Frk, Dekeyser, Jensen, Ouellet. I would say Ericsson as well, but I don't think anyone would even, remotely, want him. I feel we'll be solid with picking Bouchard, Hughes, or Boqvist. I prefer the first 2 guys. Bouchard can probably step in right away, but Hughes may have the higher ceiling. Watch his play, the kid is like Larkin but on defense and even more creative. -

Here's to hoping we can go winless in the month of March! Bring on the lottery baby! And further cement Blashill's pink slip at the end of the season. 89/90: 28-38-14 70 points -

Oh, I'm well aware. He's not getting canned in-season anyway, so it's hopefully win-win. He absolutely has to go, though. We can't even play spoiler to other teams hoping to get in at this point. It's just sad. -

I am, personally, upset because Blashill should have been fired already. He's only hindering the team at this point. I'm upset because I have zero faith that Holland (if he stays) will fire him like he should. The guy is so very clearly out of this depth at this level. I am also upset because I fear Ilitch has not balls and won't do what's necessary in replacing Holland. I am happy that we are increasing our odds at a lottery pick and more than likely picking in the top 5... I am not as gung-ho about Dahlin. I would love to have him but I am also skeptical we get in the lottery and get 1st. I am intrigued by Svechnikov and Zadina. There are also some defensive consolation prizes in Boqvist, Bouchard, and Hughes. We have big issues with our D, but we also have big issues with our forwards. We have big issues everywhere, actually... I hope they sign Bernier in the off-season to back up... scratch that, start over Howard. I also hope they trade some pieces if possible to make room for other guys. It's funny, if we get Dahlin, they'll have to move someone and hopefully will let Green walk, regardless. Bring up Hicketts, and let's see Hronek get a chance before this season is up. -

Oh... Blashill has got to go... under 2 minutes, down by 1 and you don't pull Coreau with sustained offensive pressure?!?!?!? We've seen you pull the goalie with 3-4 minutes before this season. He is so terrible at this level, get him the hell out of there. -
Pretty amazing job when we bring a young kid up and play him a total of 5:25 and zero time on the powerplay.... Just let this sink in, Witkowski played 9:16... There is no logic in this place.
-
Is there any real reason why we continue to play Luke "Bad Penalty/Can't Produce Points" Witkowski? Such a waste of a roster spot, all because Blashill coached him at Western... I'd rather Turgeon get valuable playing time, or Lorito, or Puempel... ANYONE!

Tatar traded to Golden Knights for 2018 1st, 2019 2nd & 2021 3rd
SwedeLundin77 replied to hankzet40's topic in General
Tatar mostly just floated around and had a good game here and there... He registered zero shots in 9 games this season, so far. He had many games with only 1 shot... how dynamic. He was overpaid and it's pointless to have him and Nyquist, they're far too similar. It's time for Svechnikov, Rasmussen, hell, even Lorito to get a shot up here. I never considered Tatar as a reason to watch Wings hockey, at this point. -
Now eventually you might have rumors on your, on your rumor thread, right? Hello? yes?
-
I just don't like this idea that he could be here longer... it means we'll have a mediocre defense for several more years instead of trying to build it back up. Kronwall - washed up, Ericsson - inconsistent, DeKeyser - inconsistent, Green - one dimensional and not even all that great on the offensive side anymore... Daley is the only one I think has potential to help anchor the defense going forward... it's just depressing to think we'd continue down this path of shoddy defense.
-
Big problem with that, considering that we need assets now... Green is going to be 33 and really isn't all that, all things considered. I'd rather bring up Hicketts and Hronek than pay Green without getting some picks now. He can go try to win a cup and still sign here this summer, so this notion makes zero sense.
-
So the word is as follows: Green likely to Tampa Bay for a 1st and a prospect Tatar to Nashville for.... Nyquist to San Jose or St Louis for... Glendening to Toronto for... Howard to Calgary for... Ericsson to OAR for some meldonium
-
Ummm... we absolutely DO need cap space for next season... and it has been silly to have nearly 10 million wrapped up in goalies. Smart teams don't allow that to happen. We need cap space for re-signing Larkin, Mantha, Athanasiou, Bertuzzi, Frk, potentially a d-man to replace Green, and a backup goalie... We currently only have 12.8 million free for next season and that won't cut it. The time is right to start cutting bloated contracts (Tatar, Dekeyser, Abdelkader, Nielsen, Helm, Ericsson). I'm not saying we'll be able to move all of those guys, but a team in this situation has to try their best. Yeah, there was a tweet yesterday after the Mrazek trade that was from the Detroit Red Wings: UPDATE: The Detroit #RedWings have traded F Henrik Zetterberg to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 1st Round Pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and F Kasperi Kapanen. I about spit out my drink when I first saw it but then realized it was @DetroitRedWigns... I hate people who toy with our emotions that way. Haha
-
Green is not worth 6 million as a 33-year-old... He may not even crack 40 points this season. 4 million is the most I would offer him on a 2-3 year deal...
-
Well, it sounds like there is more interest in Howard than Mrazek. I'm fine with that. Malik has said that they'll move the guy who can be moved and keep the other. I'm fine if that ends up being Mrazek so long as they can get a capable backup/time-split guy. Someone like Bernier around 2sh million per.

Back on topic... https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nhl/red-wings/2018/02/17/detroit-red-wings-mailbag-trade-deadline/347973002/ I've heard Glendening to Toronto for Kasperi Kapanen. I'd do that in heartbeat. Clears cap, brings in a good 21-year-old right-handed winger.

If we don't end up picking in the top 10, that's very bad, given the amount of defensive talent that is going to be available. They are not making the playoffs, don't want them to at this point. It would only serve to hinder any progress that could be made. Oh, and we'd probably have to deal with Blashill's terribleness and Holland's "tire kicking" after this season. NO NO NO!
-
We don't need Green. His offense is nice, but it's not groundbreaking, either. They need to start building that defensive core up because right now it's full of a bunch of 3, 4, 5, and 6 d-men. No top line talent. No shutdown defender or offensive defensemen (outside of Green). We all need to acknowledge that this team had a 4-1 lead heading into the 3rd and let it evaporate and almost lost the game (luckily Howard bailed them out in the OT). This after they just did the same thing with a 3 goal lead in the 3rd period.

2/9 GDT Red Wings at Islanders 7:00 PM EST. RIP Brenden Smith edition.
SwedeLundin77 replied to kickazz's topic in General
I know it may not matter, but Holland needs to can Blashill now. Put in a coach that has a chance of not ruining every single player on this team. He calls out the young kids but lets Tatar float around out there like a week old helium balloon... worthless. Great contract there Holland, his 22 points is sure worth the 5+ million he's paid. You know what good coaching looks like in a crazy game like this? After allowing them to get within 1 goal of us (5-4), call a freakin' timeout and regroup with your PK/defensive effort. -
I'm sorry, I want Yzerman here just as much as the next fan, but why would he take this risk? He's built a contender in Tampa that should be relevant for a while. If he was here the past two games, yeesh, can't imagine he feels confident in taking over this team. He was here for scouting reasons only. He's looking at Green, Mrazek, and maybe Nyquist.
